Chapter: Clarifying the pillars of Islam and its grand supports

باب بَيَانِ أَرْكَانِ الْإِسْلَامِ وَدَعَائِمِهِ الْعِظَامِ

Sahih Muslim 16a

It is narrated on the authority of ('Abdullah) son of Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Prophet (may peace of Allah be upon him) said:(The superstructure of) al-Islam is raised on five (pillars), i. e. the oneness of Allah, the establishment of prayer, payment of Zakat, the, fast of Ramadan, Pilgrimage (to Mecca). A person said (to 'Abdullah b. Umar the narrator): Which of the two precedes the other-Pilgrimage or the fasts of Rarnadan? Upon this he (the narrator) replied: No (it is not the Pilgrimage first) but the fasts of Ramadan precede the Pilgrimage.

حضرت ابنِ عمر رضی الله عنه روایت بیان کرتے ہیں نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اسلام کی تعمیر پانچ چیزوں سے ہے، اللہ تعالیٰ کو یکتا قرار دیا جائے، نماز قائم کرنا، زکوٰۃ ادا کرنا، رمضان کے روزے رکھنا اور حج۔“ ایک شخص نے کہا: حج اور رمضان کے روزے؟ ابنِ عمر (رضی اللہ عنہما) نے کہا: نہیں، رمضان کے روزے اور حج، میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے ایسے ہی سنا۔

Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radhi Allahu Anhu) riwayat bayan karte hain Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne farmaya: "Islam ki tameer panch cheezon se hai, Allah Ta'ala ko yakta qarar diya jaye, namaz qaim karna, zakat ada karna, Ramazan ke roze rakhna aur hajj." Ek shakhs ne kaha: Hajj aur Ramazan ke roze? Ibn Umar (Radhi Allahu Anhuma) ne kaha: Nahi, Ramazan ke roze aur hajj, main ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) se aise hi suna.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ، - يَعْنِي سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ حَيَّانَ الأَحْمَرَ - عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الأَشْجَعِيِّ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ بُنِيَ الإِسْلاَمُ عَلَى خَمْسَةٍ عَلَى أَنْ يُوَحَّدَ اللَّهُ وَإِقَامِ الصَّلاَةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ وَصِيَامِ رَمَضَانَ وَالْحَجِّ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ الْحَجِّ وَصِيَامِ رَمَضَانَ قَالَ لاَ ‏.‏ صِيَامِ رَمَضَانَ وَالْحَجِّ ‏.‏ هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 16b

It is narrated on the authority of ('Abdullah) son of 'Umar, that the Prophet (may peace of Allah be upon him) said:(The superstructure of) al-Islam is raised on five (pillars), i. e. Allah (alone) should be worshipped, and (all other gods) beside Him should be (categorically) denied. Establishment of prayer, the payment of Zakat, Pilgrimage to the House, and the fast of Ramadan (are the other obligatory acts besides the belief in the oneness of Allah and denial of all other gods).

حضرت ابنِ عمر رضی الله عنه روایت بیان کرتے ہیں نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا:”اسلام کی تعمیر پانچ چیزوں پر ہے، اللہ کی بندگی کرنا، اس کے ما سوا کی عبادت سےانکار کرنا، نماز قائم کرنا، زکوٰۃ ادا کرنا، بیت اللہ کا حج کرنا اور رمضان کے روزے رکھنا۔“

Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radhi Allahu Anhu) riwayat bayan karte hain Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne farmaya: "Islam ki tameer panch cheezon par hai, Allah ki bandagi karna, is ke ma-siwa ki ibadat se inkar karna, namaz qaim karna, zakat ada karna, Baitullah ka hajj karna aur Ramazan ke roze rakhna."

وَحَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّاءَ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ طَارِقٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدَةَ السُّلَمِيُّ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ بُنِيَ الإِسْلاَمُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ عَلَى أَنْ يُعْبَدَ اللَّهُ وَيُكْفَرَ بِمَا دُونَهُ وَإِقَامِ الصَّلاَةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ وَحَجِّ الْبَيْتِ وَصَوْمِ رَمَضَانَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 16c

It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah son of 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:(The superstructure of) al-Islam is raised on five (pillars), testifying (the fact) that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is His bondsman and messenger, and the establishment of prayer, payment of Zakat, Pilgrimage to the House (Ka'ba) and the fast of Ramadan.

حضرت عبداللہ بنِ عمر رضی الله عنه روایت بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اسلام کی تعمیر پانچ چیزوں سے ہوئی ہے، اس بات کی گواہی دینا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کے سوا کوئی إلہ (بندگی کے لائق) نہیں اور بےشک محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اس کے بندے اور اس کے رسول ہیں، نماز قائم کرنا، زکوٰۃ ادا کرنا، بیت اللہ کا حج کرنا اور رمضان کے روزے رکھنا۔“

Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (Radhi Allahu Anhu) riwayat bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne farmaya: "Islam ki tameer panch cheezon se hui hai, is baat ki gawahi dena ke Allah Ta'ala ke siwa koi ilah (bandagi ke layeq) nahi aur beshak Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) is ke bande aur is ke Rasool hain, namaz qaim karna, zakat ada karna, Baitullah ka hajj karna aur Ramazan ke roze rakhna."

حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ - عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ بُنِيَ الإِسْلاَمُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ شَهَادَةِ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَإِقَامِ الصَّلاَةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ وَحَجِّ الْبَيْتِ وَصَوْمِ رَمَضَانَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 16d

It is reported on the authority of Ta'us that a man said to 'Abdullah son of 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Why don't you carry out a military expedition? Upon which he replied:I heard the messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: Verily, al-Islam is founded on five (pillars): testifying the fact that there is no god but Allah, establishment of prayer, payment of Zakat, fast of Ramadan and Pilgrimage to the House.

ایک آدمی نے حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی الله عنهما سے پوچھا: آپ جہاد میں حصہ کیوں نہیں لیتے؟ تو انھوں نے جواب دیا: بلاشبہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا، آپؐ فر رہے تھے: ”اسلام کی عمارت پانچ چیزوں پر قائم ہے، اللہ تعالیٰ کی الوہیت کی گواہی دینا، نماز قائم کرنا، زکوٰۃ ادا کرنا، رمضان کے روزے رکھنا اور بیت اللہ کا حج کرنا۔“

Ek aadmi ne Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (Radhi Allahu Anhuma) se pucha: Aap jihad mein hissa kyun nahi lete? To unhon ne jawab diya: Bilashuba main ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) se suna, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) farma rahe thay: "Islam ki imarat panch cheezon par qaim hai, Allah Ta'ala ki uloohiyat ki gawahi dena, namaz qaim karna, zakat ada karna, Ramazan ke roze rakhna aur Baitullah ka hajj karna."

وَحَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا حَنْظَلَةُ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنَ خَالِدٍ، يُحَدِّثُ طَاوُسًا أَنَّ رَجُلاً، قَالَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَلاَ تَغْزُو فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ إِنَّ الإِسْلاَمَ بُنِيَ عَلَى خَمْسٍ شَهَادَةِ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَإِقَامِ الصَّلاَةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ وَصِيَامِ رَمَضَانَ وَحَجِّ الْبَيْتِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏
