Chapter: Marriage is recommended for the one who desires it and can afford it, and the one who cannot afford it should distract himself by fasting

باب اسْتِحْبَابِ النِّكَاحِ لِمَنْ تَاقَتْ نَفْسُهُ إِلَيْهِ وَوَجَدَ مُؤْنَةً وَاشْتِغَالِ مَنْ عَجَزَ عَنِ الْمُؤَنِ بِالصَّوْمِ
Sahih Muslim 1400b
'Alqama reported:While I was going along with 'Abdullah b. Ma'sud (Allah he pleased with him) in Mina, 'Uthman b. 'Affan (Allah be pleased with him) happened to meet him and said: Come here, Abu 'Abd al-Rahman (kunya of Abdullah b. Mas'ud), and he isolated him (from me), and when 'Abdullah (b. Mas'ud) saw that there was no need (for this privacy), he said to me: 'Alqama, come on, and so I went there. (Then) 'Uthman said to him: Abu Abd al-Rahman, should we not marry you to a virgin girl that your past may be recalled to your mind? 'Abdullah said: If you say so, the rest of the hadith is the same as narrated above.
علقمہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ میں منیٰ میں حضرت عبداللہ بن مسعود ؓ کے ساتھ چل رہا تھا، کہ ان کی اچانک حضرت عثمان بن عفان ؓ سے ملاقات ہو گئی، تو انہوں نے کہا، آئیے، اے ابو عبدالرحمٰن! انہیں الگ لے گئے، تو حضرت عبداللہ ؓ نے جان لیا، انہیں خواہش نہیں ہے، انہوں نے مجھے بلایا، اے علقمہ آؤ، میں آ گیا، تو حضرت عثمان ؓ نے انہیں کہا، اے ابو عبدالرحمان! ہم آپ کی شادی دوشیزہ لڑکی سے نہ کر دیں، شاید وہ تمہارے اندر گزشتہ دور کی یاد تازہ کر دے، تو حضرت عبداللہ ؓ نے جواب دیا، اگر آپ یہ بات کہتے ہیں، پھر مذکورہ بالا روایت بیان کی ہے۔
Alqamah (Rehmatullah Alaih) bayan karte hain ki main Mina mein Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (Radi Allahu Anhu) ke saath chal raha tha, ki unki achaanak Hazrat Usman bin Affan (Radi Allahu Anhu) se mulaqaat ho gayi, to unho ne kaha, aaiye, Ae Abu Abdur Rahman! Unhein alag le gaye, to Hazrat Abdullah (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne jaan liya, unhein khwahish nahin hai, unho ne mujhe bulaya, Ae Alqamah aao, main aa gaya, to Hazrat Usman (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne unhein kaha, Ae Abu Abdur Rahman! Hum aap ki shaadi dosheezah ladki se na kar dein, shayad woh tumhare andar guzashta daur ki yaad taaza kar de, to Hazrat Abdullah (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne jawab diya, agar aap yeh baat kehte hain, phir mazkoora bala riwayat bayan ki hai.
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، قَالَ إِنِّي لأَمْشِي مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ بِمِنًى إِذْ لَقِيَهُ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ فَقَالَ هَلُمَّ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ فَاسْتَخْلاَهُ فَلَمَّا رَأَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ أَنْ لَيْسَتْ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ - قَالَ - قَالَ لِي تَعَالَ يَا عَلْقَمَةُ - قَالَ - فَجِئْتُ فَقَالَ لَهُ عُثْمَانُ أَلاَ نُزَوِّجُكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ جَارِيَةً بِكْرًا لَعَلَّهُ يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ نَفْسِكَ مَا كُنْتَ تَعْهَدُ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ لَئِنْ قُلْتَ ذَاكَ . فَذَكَرَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ .
