Jabir bin Abdullah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported ‘while I had been ill, Allah's Apostle ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) came to me and found me unconscious. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) performed ablution and sprinkled over me the water of his ablution. I regained my consciousness and said, Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم), my case of inheritance is that of Kalala. Then the verse pertaining to the inheritance (of Kalala) was revealed. I (one of the narrators) said, I said to Muhammad bin Munkadir, do you mean this verse? - َّْ ُ يُفْتِيكُميَسْتَفْتُونَكَ قُلِ َّللا َُ لَهَ لَةِ ۚ إِنِ امْرُؤٌ هَلَكَ لَيْس فِي الْكَال ِِ ثُهَا إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهَا وَلَدٌ ۚ فَإِنْ كَانَتَا اثْنَتَيْنَكَ ۚ وَ هُوَ يَرُ مَا تَروَلَدٌ وَلَهُ أُخْتٌ فَلَهَا نِصْف ًِ جَاالَكَ ۚ وَإِنْ كَانُوا إِخْوَ ةً رفَلَهُمَا الثُّلُثَانِ مِمَّا تَر َوَ نِس ٌَّ ُ بِكُل ِ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمِ لُّوا ۗ وََّللاَّ ُ لَكُمْ أَنْ تَضْ ُنْثَيَيْنِ ۗ يُبَي ِنُ َّللاِ مِثْلُ حَظ ِ األاءً فَلِلذَّكَر [They ask you (O' Prophet ﷺ) about Kalalah (a man who dies childless). Say, Allah has given a decision in the matter of inheritance. If a man dies and leaves no child behind but have a sister, she will get half of what he owned, as he would have done the whole of what she possessed if she had died childless. In case he has two sisters then they will get two-thirds of the heritage. But if he has both brothers and sisters, the male will inherit a share equal to that of two females. Allah makes this manifest to you, lest you wander astray, for Allah has knowledge of all the things.] (An-Nisa - 176). He said, yes, it was thus revealed.
