Sahih Muslim 1799
Anas bin Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that it was said to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), ‘would that you approached Abdullah bin Ubayy (to persuade him to accept Islam). The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) (accordingly) went to him, riding a donkey, and (a party of) Muslims also went (with him). On the way they had to walk over a piece of land affected with salinity. When the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) approached him, he said, do not come near me. By Allah, the obnoxious smell of your donkey has offended me. (As a rejoinder to this remark), a man from the Ansar said, by God, the smell of the donkey of the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) is better than your smell. (At this), a man from the tribe of Abdullah got furious. Then people from both sides got furious and exchanged blows with sticks, hands, and shoes. (The narrator says) that (after this scuffle) we learnt that (the Qur'anic verse) - ُوَإِنْ طَائِفَتَانِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اقْتَتَل ۖ وا فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَهُمَا ََّ ِ ۚ فَإِنْ فَاءِ َّللاٰ أَمْرٰ تَفِيءَ إِلَىٰ فَقَاتِلُوا الَّتِي تَبْغِي حَتَّىَ ىْ ُخْرْ إِحْدَاهُمَا عَلَى األفَإِنْ بَغَت َ َّْ فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَهُمَا بِالْعَدْلِ وَأَقْسِطُوا ۖ إِنَّ َّللات َِ بُّ الْمُقْسِطِينيُح [ And if two groups of believers fight with each other, make peace between them. But if one of them transgresses against the other, then fight against the transgressing group until they (are willing to) submit to the rule of Allah. If they do so, then make peace between both (groups) in all fairness and act justly. Surely Allah loves those who uphold justice.] (Al-Hujuraat – 9)
حضرت انس بن مالک رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے گزارش کی گئی، اے کاش! آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم عبداللہ بن ابی کے پاس جائیں، (اس کو اسلام کی دعوت دیں) تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم گدھے پر سوار ہو کر اس کی طرف چل پڑے اور مسلمان بھی چل پڑے، وہ زمین شوریلی تھی، جب آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اس کے پاس پہنچے، وہ کہنے لگا، مجھ سے دور ہو جائیے، اللہ کی قسم، مجھے تیرے گدھے کی بو نے اذیت پہنچائی ہے تو ایک انصاری آدمی نے کہا، اللہ کی قسم! رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے گدھے کی بو تجھ سے زیادہ پاکیزہ ہے، اس پر عبداللہ کی قوم کا ایک آدمی اس کی خاطر غصہ میں آ گیا، اس طرح ہر آدمی کے ساتھی، اس کی خاطر غصے میں آ گئے اور وہ ایک دوسرے کو کھجور کی چھڑیوں، ہاتھوں اور جوتیوں سے مارنے لگے، حضرت انس رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ کہتے ہیں، ہمیں یہ بات پہنچی ہے کہ انہیں کے بارے میں یہ آیت نازل ہوئی ہے، ”اگر مومنوں کے دو گروہ باہم لڑ پڑیں تو ان کے درمیان صلح صفائی کرا دو۔“
Hazrat Anas bin Malik (Razi Allahu Anhu) bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se guzarish ki gayi, Aye kaash! Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) Abdullah bin Ubayy ke paas jayen, (usko Islam ki dawat dein) to Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) gadhe par sawar ho kar uski taraf chal pade aur Musalman bhi chal pade, woh zameen shoraili thi, jab Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) uske paas pahunche, woh kehne laga, mujh se door ho jaiye, Allah ki qasam, mujhe tere gadhe ki bo ne aziyat pahunchai hai to ek Ansari aadmi ne kaha, Allah ki qasam! Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke gadhe ki bo tujh se zyada pakiza hai, is par Abdullah ki qaum ka ek aadmi uski khatir ghussa mein aa gaya, is tarah har aadmi ke saathi, uski khatir ghusse mein aa gaye aur woh ek doosre ko khajoor ki chhadiyon, hathon aur jootiyon se marne lage, Hazrat Anas (Razi Allahu Anhu) kehte hain, hamein yeh baat pahunchi hai ke unhin ke bare mein yeh ayat nazil hui hai, "Agar mominon ke do giroh baaham lad padain to unke darmiyan sulah safai kara do."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى الْقَيْسِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ قِيلَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَوْ أَتَيْتَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أُبَىٍّ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ إِلَيْهِ وَرَكِبَ حِمَارًا وَانْطَلَقَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَهِيَ أَرْضٌ سَبِخَةٌ فَلَمَّا أَتَاهُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ إِلَيْكَ عَنِّي فَوَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ آذَانِي نَتْنُ حِمَارِكَ . قَالَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ وَاللَّهِ لَحِمَارُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَطْيَبُ رِيحًا مِنْكَ - قَالَ - فَغَضِبَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ - قَالَ - فَغَضِبَ لِكُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا أَصْحَابُهُ - قَالَ - فَكَانَ بَيْنَهُمْ ضَرْبٌ بِالْجَرِيدِ وَبِالأَيْدِي وَبِالنِّعَالِ - قَالَ - فَبَلَغَنَا أَنَّهَا نَزَلَتْ فِيهِمْ { وَإِنْ طَائِفَتَانِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اقْتَتَلُوا فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَهُمَا} .
