Chapter: Washing the deceased

باب فِي غَسْلِ الْمَيِّتِ
Sahih Muslim 939g
Umm 'Atiyya (رضي الله تعالى عنها) narrated that ‘there came to us the Apostle of Allah ( صلى ہللا عليهو آله وسلم) as we were washing one of his daughters. So, he said, ‘wash her (dead body) an odd number of times, five times or more than that, the rest of the Hadith is the same. She (further) said, ‘we braided her hair in three plaits: (two) on the sides of her head and one on her forehead.
حضرت ام عطیہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا بیان کرتی ہیں: کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہمارے پاس تشر یف لائے جبکہ ہم آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی کسی بیٹی کو غسل دے رہے تھے۔ تو آپ نے فرمایا: ”اسے طاق مرتبہ غسل دو، پانچ دفعہ یا اس سے زائد“ جیسا کہ ایوب اور عاصم کی حدیث ہے اس حدیث میں یہ بھی ہے کہ ہم نے ان کے بالوں کے تین حصے کر دیئے، دونوں کنپٹیوں کی طرف اور ایک پیشانی کی طرف۔
Hazrat Umm Atiyyah (radiyallahu ta'ala anha) bayan karti hain: ke Rasool Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) hamare paas tashreef laye jabke hum Aap (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) ki kisi beti ko ghusal de rahe thay. To Aap ne farmaya: "Ise taaq martaba ghusal do, paanch dafa ya is se zyada" jaisa ke Ayub aur Asim ki hadees hai is hadees mein ye bhi hai ke hum ne un ke balon ke teen hisse kar diye, donon kanpatiyon ki taraf aur ek peshani ki taraf.
وَحَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ، بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَنَحْنُ نَغْسِلُ إِحْدَى بَنَاتِهِ فَقَالَ " اغْسِلْنَهَا وِتْرًا خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكِ " . بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِ أَيُّوبَ وَعَاصِمٍ وَقَالَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ قَالَتْ فَضَفَرْنَا شَعْرَهَا ثَلاَثَةَ أَثْلاَثٍ قَرْنَيْهَا وَنَاصِيَتَهَا .
