'Awf ibn Malik said: We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on one of his expeditions. We arrived at a place one night and did not see the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in his usual spot. The camels had put down their packs and I had some ropes. Mu'adh ibn Jabal came toward me and we both stood up. I said, “Where is the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?” He said, “I think…" and then he mentioned the narration.
عوف بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ ایک غزوہ میں تھے۔ ایک رات ہم ایک جگہ پہنچے تو ہم نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو آپ کی جگہ پر نہ پایا۔ اونٹوں نے اپنے تھان اتار لیے تھے اور میرے پاس کچھ رسیاں تھیں۔ معاذ بن جبل رضی اللہ عنہ میری طرف آئے اور ہم دونوں کھڑے ہو گئے۔ میں نے کہا، "رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کہاں ہیں؟" انہوں نے کہا، "مجھے لگتا ہے…" پھر انہوں نے حدیث بیان کی۔

أَخْبَرَنِي الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى التَّمِيمِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ شَاهِينَ، ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ مَغَازِيهِ فَانْتَهَيْنَا ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَلَمْ نَرَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مَكَانَهُ، وَإِذَا الْإِبِلُ قَدْ وَضَعَتْ جِرَانَهَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِحِبَالٍ، فَإِذَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ فَتَصَدَّى لِي وَتَصَدَّيْتُ لَهُ فَقُلْتُ: أَيْنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: وَرَائِي، وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ. «وَهَذَا صَحِيحٌ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ» . وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ، عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ. «بِإِسْنَادٍ صَحِيحٍ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ» [التعليق - من تلخيص الذهبي] 221 - مر متنه قال وهذا على شرط مسلم
