Abu Ahmad ibn Ady al-Jarjani: He has narrations, but his craft is not narration. He knows what he narrates from whom he narrates it, and the speech in it and about it. He has virtue, but he is weak.
Abu al-Husayn al-Rahawi: I wrote down the books of al-Hasan ibn Ziyad and used to accompany him. One day I saw him in prayer, and a slave boy came to his side in the row. When they prostrated, he stretched out his hand to the cheek of the slave boy and pinched him while he was prostrating. I left him and decided not to narrate anything from him ever again.
Abu Thawr ibn Ibrahim al-Kalbi: I have not seen anyone more of a liar than al-Lu'lu'i. He used to have Ibn Juraij on the tip of his tongue, on the authority of Ata.
Abu Hatim al-Razi: Weak in Hadith, not trustworthy nor reliable.
Abu Dawud al-Sijistani: A liar, not trustworthy nor reliable.
Ahmad ibn Hanbal: Weak in Hadith.
Ahmad ibn Shuayb al-Nasa'i: Not trustworthy nor reliable.
Ahmad ibn Abd al-Hamid al-Harithi: I have not seen anyone with better character than al-Hasan ibn Ziyad, nor closer in approach, nor easier to deal with. He said: Al-Hasan used to clothe his slaves as he clothed himself.
Ahmad ibn Yunus al-Dabi: He was a memorizer of the sayings of his companions.
Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Jarjari: I saw al-Hasan ibn Ziyad playing with the penis of a boy.
Al-Daraqutni: Weak, abandoned, mentioned among the weak and abandoned narrators.
Al-Nadr ibn Shamil: When al-Kashi wrote his books, Abu al-Hasan said to him: 'You have brought much evil to your town, you have brought much evil to your town.'
Hammad ibn Usama al-Kufi: He called him 'al-Jabt' (the cistern), and once: 'al-Khabis' (the wicked).
Zakariya ibn Yahya al-Saji: It is said that he was a memorizer.
Sharik ibn Abd Allah al-Nakha'i: He said to a man who asked him and informed him of his acquaintance with Hasan ibn Ziyad ibn al-Lu'lu'i: 'You have known evil, you have known evil.'
Salih ibn Muhammad al-Jazara: He is nothing, he is not praised by our companions nor by them. He used to be accused. He said: 'Evil has appeared.' He is not considered in Hadith.
Ali ibn al-Madini: His Hadith should not be written down.
Muhammad ibn Humayd al-Razi: I have not seen worse prayer than that of al-Hasan ibn Ziyad al-Lu'lu'i.
Muhammad ibn Rafi' al-Naysaburi: Al-Hasan ibn Ziyad al-Lu'lu'i used to raise his head before the Imam and prostrate before him. He said: I heard him say: 'Hasn't the Hadith come that whoever cuts down a lote tree, Allah will thrust his head into the Fire?' They said: 'The Hadith is about the sidr tree (a type of lote tree).' He said: 'Whoever cuts down a date palm tree, Allah will thrust his head into the Fire,' twice.
Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Numayr: He lies on Ibn Juraij.
Muslim ibn al-Qasim al-Andalusi: Trustworthy.
Wakeel ibn al-Jarraah: He was told that the Sunnah is a proof. He said: 'How can it not be a proof when Hasan al-Lu'lu'i is a judge and Hammad ibn Abi Hanifah?'
Yahya ibn Ma'in: A liar, he is nothing. And once: A wicked liar. And once: A liar.
Yazid ibn Harun al-Ayli: When he was asked about him, he said: 'Is he a Muslim?'
Yaqub ibn Sufyan al-Faswi: A liar.
Yusuf ibn Umar al-Qawwas: Beware of al-Lu'lu'i.
