Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami: A young man who is not among the Sufis, nor the jurists, nor is there anyone with better manners or more knowledgeable than him.
Ahmad ibn Abd al-Malik al-Mu'adhdhin: The Imam of the Shafi'is in Nishapur, their jurist, and their teacher. He had students and companions, and a study circle. With that, he possessed piety, asceticism, seclusion from people, abandonment of seeking status, refraining from approaching rulers, and avoiding what is unbecoming of scholars, such as involvement in wills, endowments, and similar matters. He was among the best of people in character.
