Abu Hatim al-Razi: He was like al-Nafili in truthfulness and piety
Ahmad ibn Hanbal: I saw him as a knowledgeable man and I did not see any harm in him, I saw him preserving his hadith and I did not see anything but good, and he is a man of Sunnah, and al-Maymuni said, I said to Ahmad, 'The people of Harran speak ill of him,' so he said, 'The people of Harran rarely praise anyone. He deceives the Sultan because of a property he owns.'
