Abu Ahmad ibn 'Adi al-Jurjani: He has narrations from al-Sha'bi, on the authority of Jabir, that are sound, and from other Companions besides Jabir, narrations that are sound, but most of what he narrates is not preserved.
Abu Bakr al-Bazzar: Some scholars have criticized him.
Abu Bakr al-Bayhaqi: Others are more reliable than him.
Abu Hatim al-Razi: His hadiths are not to be used as evidence, and he is not strong in hadith.
Abu Hatim ibn Hibban al-Busti: He had a poor memory, would reverse chains of narration, and elevate mursal reports. It is not permissible to use him as evidence.
Abu Hafs 'Umar ibn Shahin: One must pause in his case.
Ahmad ibn Hanbal: He is not reliable. He elevates many hadiths that people do not elevate. However, people have tolerated him. Once he said: 'His hadith from his companions is like a dream.' And once: 'He is weak.'
Ahmad ibn Shu'ayb al-Nasa'i: Reliable. And once: 'He is not strong.' And once: 'A weak Kufi.'
Ahmad ibn Salih al-Jili: His hadith is acceptable, good.
Ibrahim ibn Ya'qub al-Jawzajani: His hadith is weak.
Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalani: He is not strong, and he changed towards the end of his life. Weak.
Al-Daraqutni: He is a Kufi, not strong. And once: 'He is not reliable.' And once: 'He is not to be considered.' And once: 'Others are more reliable than him.'
Jarir ibn Hazim al-Juhadmi: A liar.
Sufyan al-Thawri: Ash'ath ibn Sawwar is more reliable than Mujalid.
Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi: He would not narrate anything from him. And once: 'His memory changed at the end of his life. He is weak.'
Ali ibn al-Madini: People have criticized him, but he is reliable. And once: 'I have some reservations about him.'
Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi'i: The hadith from Mujalid 'struggles' (to be accepted).
Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari: I do not write down his hadith. And once: 'I do not work with his hadith.' And once: 'Truthful.'
Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna: His hadith is acceptable due to his truthfulness.
Muhammad ibn Sa'd, the scribe of al-Waqidi: Weak in hadith.
Nur al-Din al-Haythami: There is disagreement about him.
Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan: He weakened him, and said: 'He would be prompted with hadith, being a good scribe.' And once: 'I have some reservations about him. If I wanted Mujalid to elevate all his hadiths for me, he would elevate them.' And once he said: 'Mujalid is more beloved to me than Layth and Hajjaj.'
Yahya ibn Ma'in: His hadith is not to be used as evidence. And once: 'Weak and unreliable in hadith.' And once: 'Good.' And once: 'Reliable.'
Ya'qub ibn Sufyan al-Faswi: Truthful. And once: 'He narrates a lot and is confused.'
