Abu Ahmad al-Hakim: He may contradict himself in some of his hadiths.
Abu Ahmad ibn 'Adi al-Jurjani: Some praised him and some criticized him. He was among those who were strict in adhering to the Sunnah. He investigated the mistakes he made and said: 'I hope that the rest of his hadiths are upright.' And once he said: 'He used to fabricate hadiths.'
Abu al-Fath al-Azdi: He was among those who fabricated hadiths to strengthen the Sunnah. The fabricated stories about slandering al-Nu'man are all lies.
Abu Bishr al-Dulabi: Weak. And once he said: 'He accused him of fabrication.'
Abu Hatim al-Razi: His place is truthfulness.
Abu Hatim ibn Hibban al-Busti: He may have erred and made mistakes.
Abu Dawud al-Sijistani: Lenient.
Abu Zur'ah al-Dimashqi: He connects hadiths that people stop at.
Abu Zur'ah al-Razi: He connects hadiths that people stop at.
Abu Sa'id ibn Yunus al-Misri: He understands hadith. He narrated rejected hadiths from the trustworthy narrators.
Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim al-Naysaburi: One of the Imams of Islam.
Abu 'Urubah al-Harani: His matter is unclear.
Ahmad ibn Hanbal: Among the trustworthy. And once: 'He is known for seeking knowledge, and he is the first one we saw writing the Musnad.'
Ahmad ibn Shu'ayb al-Nasa'i: He is not trustworthy. And once: 'Weak.'
Ahmad ibn Salih al-Jili: Trustworthy.
Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalani: Truthful, but errs frequently. A jurist knowledgeable in jurisprudence. Ibn 'Adi investigated his errors and said: 'The rest of his hadiths are upright. His justice and truthfulness have been established, but there are well-known mistakes in his hadiths.' And once: 'He is a famous scholar among the major hadith scholars. Al-Bukhari met him, but he did not narrate from him in Sahih except in one or two places.'
Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi: The first to compile the Musnad and classify it was Nu'aym ibn Hammad. He was one of the most knowledgeable people in jurisprudence, strict in adhering to the Sunnah. He was imprisoned during the Mihna (inquisition), and died while in prison. He was harsh towards the people of opinion (Mu'tazila).
Al-Daraqutni: An Imam in hadith, but with many mistakes.
Al-Dhahabi: One of the leading Imams, although there is some leniency in his hadith. And once: 'He was one of the vessels of knowledge, although there is some leniency in his hadith.' And once: 'The Hafiz, there are differing opinions about him.' And once: 'He mentioned a hadith in his summary and said: 'This is one of his strange narrations.' Ibn al-'Ajami said: 'Meaning, one of his fabrications.'
Sibṭ Ibn al-'Ajami: One of the leading Imams, although there is some leniency in his hadith.
Salih ibn Muhammad Jazara: Lenient.
Muslim ibn al-Qasim al-Andalusi: Truthful, but he makes many mistakes. He has rejected hadiths on battles that he narrated uniquely.
Authors of Tahrir Taqrib al-Tahdhib: Weak. He was weakened by more than one of the Imams. But some of them strengthened his status, and praised him because of his support for the Sunnah, his strong stance in resisting its enemies, and his firm stance during the Mihna, to the extent that he died imprisoned in his chains.
Yahya ibn Ma'in: Trustworthy, truthful, a man of truth. I am the most knowledgeable of people about him. And once: 'He is nothing in hadith, but he was a man of the Sunnah.' And once: 'He is known for seeking knowledge.' And he criticized him, saying: 'He narrates from untrustworthy narrators.'
