Abu Hatim al-Razi: No one surpasses him among the companions of al-Sha'bi, and he is trustworthy. I narrate from Bayan and Firas, and I memorize from Mujalid, he is fine.
Abu Hatim ibn Hibban al-Busti: He was a righteous sheikh.
Ahmad ibn Hanbal: The most knowledgeable of people in hadith from al-Sha'bi ibn Abi Khalid, he drank knowledge like one drinks water.
Ahmad ibn Shu'ayb al-Nasa'i: Trustworthy
Ahmad ibn Salih al-Jili: Trustworthy, and he was a righteous man, and once: he was upright in hadith and sometimes he would narrate mursal reports from al-Sha'bi, and when he stopped, he would inform. He was a man of the Sunnah, and he would not narrate except from a trustworthy person.
Ibn Abi 'Asim al-Nabil: Trustworthy

al-Daraqutni: Trustworthy
al-Dhahabi: The Hafiz
Sufyan al-Thawri: The most knowledgeable of people about al-Sha'bi, and the most upright of them regarding him.
Sufyan ibn 'Uyainah: He was the most eager seeker of knowledge and the best memorizer of hadith from al-A'mash.
Amr ibn Shurahil al-Sha'bi: He understood knowledge deeply.
Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi: Trustworthy
Muhammad ibn 'Ammar al-Mawsili: An authority
Marwan ibn Mu'awiya al-Fazari: Isma'il was called 'The Scale'.
Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan: His mursal reports are not of value.
Yahya ibn Ma'in: Trustworthy
Ya'qub ibn Sufyan al-Faswi: He was illiterate, a memorizer, and trustworthy.
Ya'qub ibn Shaybah al-Sudosi: Trustworthy, Upright
