Ubaidullah bin Al-Qibtiyyah narrated, ‘I heard Jabir bin Samurah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) say, ‘when we prayed behind the Prophet ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), we used to say, “As-salamu 'alaykum, as-salamu 'alaykum (peace be upon you, peace be upon you)”. Mis'ar (one of the narrators) pointed with his hand to the right and the left. He (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘What is the matter with these people who wave their hands as if they are the tails of wild horses? It is sufficient for one to place his hands on his thighs and to say the Salam to his brother to his right and left’.

جابر بن سمرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ جب ہم نبی اکرم ﷺ کے پیچھے نماز پڑھتے تو ہم سلام پھیرتے وقت «السلام عليكم السلام عليكم» کہتے تھے، ( مسعر نے اپنے ہاتھ سے دائیں بائیں دونوں طرف اشارہ کر کے بتایا ) تو آپ نے فرمایا: ان لوگوں کو کیا ہو گیا ہے جو اپنے ہاتھ اس طرح کرتے ہیں گویا شریر گھوڑوں کی دم ہیں، کیا یہ کافی نہیں کہ وہ اپنے ہاتھ اپنی ران پر رکھیں، پھر وہ اپنے دائیں طرف اور اپنے بائیں اپنے بھائی کو سلام کریں ۔
Jabir bin Samurah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke jab hum Nabi-e-Akram (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke pichhe namaz padhte to hum salam phirte waqt «assalamu alaikum assalamu alaikum» kehte the, (Mus'ar ne apne hath se da'en ba'en dono taraf ishara kar ke bataya) to aap ne farmaya: In logoon ko kya ho gaya hai jo apne hath is tarah karte hain goya shariir ghodon ki dam hain, kya yeh kafi nahin ke woh apne hath apni ran par rakhen, phir woh apne da'en taraf aur apne ba'en apne bhai ko salam karein.
أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ابْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ، يَقُولُ كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قُلْنَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ . وَأَشَارَ مِسْعَرٌ بِيَدِهِ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ فَقَالَ " مَا بَالُ هَؤُلاَءِ الَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ الْخَيْلِ الشُّمُسِ أَمَا يَكْفِي أَنْ يَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِهِ ثُمَّ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَى أَخِيهِ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ " .
