Ata narrated that, I heard Ubaid bin Umair (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said, ‘someone whom I trust’ and I think he meant Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضي الله تعالى عنها) said that, there was an eclipse of the sun during the time of the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). He led the people in prayer and stood for an exceedingly long time, then he bowed, then he stood, then he bowed, then he stood, then he bowed. He prayed two rak'a, bowing three times in each rak'a. After bowing for the third time he prostrated for a long time. Some men fainted on that day and had to be revived by having buckets of water thrown over them, because of having stood for so long. When he bowed, he said, ‘Allahu Akbar’, and when he raised his head, he said, ‘Sami Allahu lima hamidah’. He did not finish until the eclipse had ended. Then he stood and praised and glorified Allah (جَلَّ ذُو) and said, ‘the sun and moon do not eclipse for the death or birth of anyone, but they are two of the signs of Allah (جَلَّ ذُو) with which He strikes fear unto you. If they are eclipsed then turn to the remembrance of Allah ( ََّّ وَ جَلعَز), the Mighty and Sublime, until it (the eclipse) is over’.

عبید بن عمیر کہتے ہیں کہ مجھ سے اس شخص نے بیان کیا ہے جسے میں سچا سمجھتا ہوں، میرا گمان ہے کہ ان کی مراد ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا تھیں، وہ کہتی ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ کے زمانے میں سورج گرہن لگا، تو آپ نے لوگوں کے ساتھ بڑی دیر تک نماز میں قیام کیا، آپ لوگوں کے ساتھ قیام کرتے، پھر رکوع کرتے، پھر قیام کرتے، پھر رکوع کرتے، پھر قیام کرتے پھر رکوع کرتے، اس طرح آپ نے دو رکعت پڑھی، ہر رکعت میں آپ نے تین رکوع کیا، تیسرے رکوع سے اٹھنے کے بعد آپ نے سجدہ کیا یہاں تک کہ اس دن آدمیوں پر غشی طاری ہو گئی تھی جس کی وجہ سے ان کے اوپر پانی کے ڈول انڈیلنے پڑ گئے تھے، آپ جب رکوع کرتے تو «اللہ اکبر» کہتے، اور جب سر اٹھاتے تو «سمع اللہ لمن حمده» کہتے، آپ فارغ نہیں ہوئے جب تک کہ سورج صاف نہیں ہو گیا، پھر آپ کھڑے ہوئے، اور آپ نے اللہ کی حمد و ثنا بیان کی، اور فرمایا: سورج اور چاند کو نہ تو کسی کے مرنے سے گرہن لگتا ہے، اور نہ ہی کسی کے پیدا ہونے سے، لیکن یہ دونوں اللہ تعالیٰ کی نشانیوں میں سے دو نشانیاں ہیں جن کے ذریعہ وہ تمہیں ڈراتا ہے، تو جب ان میں گرہن لگے تو اللہ تعالیٰ کے ذکر کی طرف دوڑ پڑو، اور ذکر الٰہی میں لگے رہو جب تک کہ وہ صاف نہ ہو جائیں ۔
Ubaid bin Umayr kehte hain ke mujh se us shakhs ne bayan kiya hai jise mein sacha samjhta hoon, mera guman hai ke un ki mraad Ummul Momineen Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) thin, woh kehti hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke zamane mein suraj grahan laga, to aap ne logoon ke sath bari der tak namaz mein qiyam kiya, aap logoon ke sath qiyam karte, phir rukoo karte, phir qiyam karte, phir rukoo karte, phir qiyam karte phir rukoo karte, is tarah aap ne do rakat padhi, har rakat mein aap ne teen rukoo kiya, teesre rukoo se uthne ke baad aap ne sajda kiya yahaan tak ke is din aadmiyon per ghashi tari ho gayi thi jis ki wajah se un per pani ke dol andilne pad gaye the, aap jab rukoo karte to «Allah Akbar» kehte, aur jab sar uthate to «Samaa Allahu Liman Hamide» kehte, aap farigh nahin hue jab tak ke suraj saf nahin ho gaya, phir aap kharde hue, aur aap ne Allah ki hamd o sana bayan ki, aur farmaya: «Suraj aur chand ko na to kisi ke marne se grahan lagta hai, aur na hi kisi ke paidaa hone se, lekin yeh dono Allah Ta'ala ki nishaniyon mein se do nishaniyan hain jin ke zariye woh tumhen darata hai, to jab in mein grahan lage to Allah Ta'ala ke zikr ki taraf daud padho, aur zikr e ilahi mein lage raho jab tak ke woh saf na ho jayen».
أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُبَيْدَ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ، يُحَدِّثُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ، أُصَدِّقُ فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ يُرِيدُ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ كَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَامَ بِالنَّاسِ قِيَامًا شَدِيدًا يَقُومُ بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ يَرْكَعُ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ ثُمَّ يَرْكَعُ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ ثُمَّ يَرْكَعُ فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ ثَلاَثَ رَكَعَاتٍ رَكَعَ الثَّالِثَةَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ حَتَّى إِنَّ رِجَالاً يَوْمَئِذٍ يُغْشَى عَلَيْهِمْ حَتَّى إِنَّ سِجَالَ الْمَاءِ لَتُصَبُّ عَلَيْهِمْ مِمَّا قَامَ بِهِمْ يَقُولُ إِذَا رَكَعَ " اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ " . وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ " سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ " . فَلَمْ يَنْصَرِفْ حَتَّى تَجَلَّتِ الشَّمْسُ فَقَامَ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ " إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنْ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ يُخَوِّفُكُمْ بِهِمَا فَإِذَا كَسَفَا فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حَتَّى يَنْجَلِيَا " .
