Ali bin Husain (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated from his father that his grandfather Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said, ‘The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) came me and Fatima ( رضي الله تعالى عنها), one night and woke us up to pray, then he went back to his house and prayed for part of the night, and he did not hear any movement from us. He came back to us and woke us up, and said, ‘Get up and pray’. I sat up, rubbing my eyes, and said, ‘By Allah (جَلَّ ذُو), we will only pray that which has decreed for us. Our souls are in the hand of Allah (جَلَّ ذُو) and if He wants us to get up, He will do so’. The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) turned away, striking his hand on his thigh, saying, ‘we will only pray that which Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) has decreed for us! But man is ever more quarrelsome than anything’.

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: رمضان کے مہینے کے بعد سب سے افضل روزے اللہ کے مہینے محرم کے روزے ہیں ۱؎، اور فرض نماز کے بعد سب سے افضل نماز قیام اللیل ( تہجد ) ہے ۔
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Ramadan ke mahine ke baad sab se afzal roze Allah ke mahine Muharram ke roze hain 1, aur farz namaz ke baad sab se afzal namaz qiyam al-layl (tahajjud) hai.
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، - هُوَ ابْنُ عَوْفٍ - عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ وَأَفْضَلُ الصَّلاَةِ بَعْدَ الْفَرِيضَةِ صَلاَةُ اللَّيْلِ " .
