Chapter: Qiyam during the month of Ramadan

باب قِيَامِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ

Sunan an-Nasa'i 1604

Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘whoever prays Qiyam (Taraweeh) during Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, he will be forgiven his previous sins’.

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ایک رات مسجد میں نماز پڑھی، آپ کی نماز کے ساتھ کچھ اور لوگوں نے بھی نماز پڑھی، پھر آپ نے آنے والی رات میں بھی نماز پڑھی اور لوگ بڑھ گئے تھے، پھر تیسری یا چوتھی رات میں لوگ جمع ہوئے تو رسول اللہ ﷺ ان کی طرف نکلے ہی نہیں، پھر جب صبح ہوئی تو آپ نے فرمایا:  تم نے جو دلچسپی دکھائی اسے میں نے دیکھا، تو تمہاری طرف نکلنے سے مجھے صرف اس چیز نے روک دیا کہ میں ڈرا کہ کہیں وہ تمہارے اوپر فرض نہ کر دی جائے ، یہ رمضان کا واقعہ تھا ۔

Am al-Momineen Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) se riwayat hai ke Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ek raat masjid mein namaz padhi, aap ki namaz ke sath kuchh aur logon ne bhi namaz padhi, phir aap ne aane wali raat mein bhi namaz padhi aur log badh gaye the, phir teesri ya chauthi raat mein log jama hue to Rasulallah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) un ki taraf nikle hi nahin, phir jab subah hui to aap ne farmaya:  Tum ne jo dilchaspi dikhai usse main ne dekha, to tumhari taraf nikalne se mujhe sirf is cheez ne rok diya ke main darra ke kahin woh tumhare upar farz nah kar di jaye, yeh Ramadan ka waqia tha 1؎.

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم صَلَّى فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ وَصَلَّى بِصَلاَتِهِ نَاسٌ ثُمَّ صَلَّى مِنَ الْقَابِلَةِ وَكَثُرَ النَّاسُ ثُمَّ اجْتَمَعُوا مِنَ اللَّيْلَةِ الثَّالِثَةِ أَوِ الرَّابِعَةِ فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ قَالَ ‏"‏ قَدْ رَأَيْتُ الَّذِي صَنَعْتُمْ فَلَمْ يَمْنَعْنِي مِنَ الْخُرُوجِ إِلَيْكُمْ إِلاَّ أَنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ يُفْرَضَ عَلَيْكُمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَذَلِكَ فِي رَمَضَانَ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 1605

Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضي الله تعالى عنها) narrated that the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) prayed in the masjid one night, and some people followed his prayer. Then he prayed the following night and more people came. Then they gathered on the third or fourth night and the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) did not come out to them. When it was morning, he said, ‘I saw what you did, and nothing prevented me from coming out to you but the fact that I feared that this would be made obligatory for you’. And that was in Ramadan.

ابوذر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نے رسول اللہ ﷺ کے ساتھ رمضان میں روزے رکھے، تو آپ ہمارے ساتھ  ( تراویح کے لیے )  کھڑے نہیں ہوئے یہاں تک کہ مہینے کی سات راتیں باقی رہ گئیں، تو آپ نے ہمارے ساتھ قیام کیا یہاں تک کہ ایک تہائی رات گزر گئی، پھر چوبیسویں رات کو قیام نہیں کیا، پھر پچیسویں رات کو قیام کیا یہاں تک کہ آدھی رات گزر گئی، میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! کاش آپ ہماری اس رات کے باقی حصہ میں بھی اسی طرح نفلی نماز پڑھاتے، تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا:  جو شخص امام کے ساتھ قیام کرے یہاں تک کہ وہ فارغ ہو جائے تو اللہ تعالیٰ اس شخص کے حق میں پوری رات کے قیام ( کا ثواب )  لکھے گا ، پھر آپ نے ہمیں نماز نہیں پڑھائی، اور نہ آپ نے قیام کیا یہاں تک کہ مہینے کی تین راتیں باقی رہ گئیں، تو آپ نے ستائیسویں رات میں ہمارے ساتھ قیام کیا، اور اپنے اہل و عیال کو بھی جمع کیا یہاں تک کہ ہمیں ڈر ہوا کہ کہیں ہم سے فلاح چھوٹ نہ جائے، میں نے پوچھا: فلاح کیا ہے؟ کہنے لگے: سحری ہے۔

Abuzar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke hum ne Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke sath Ramadan mein roze rakhe, to aap hamare sath (taraveeh ke liye) khare nahin hue yahan tak ke mahine ki sat raten baki reh gain, to aap ne hamare sath qiyam kiya yahan tak ke ek tihai raat guzar gai, phir chaubisiwin raat ko qiyam nahin kiya, phir pacchisiwin raat ko qiyam kiya yahan tak ke aadhi raat guzar gai, main ne arz kiya: Allah ke Rasool! kash aap hamari is raat ke baki hisse mein bhi isi tarah nafli namaz padhate, to aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: jo shakhs imam ke sath qiyam kare yahan tak ke woh farigh ho jaye to Allah Ta'ala is shakhs ke haq mein poori raat ke qiyam (ka sawab) likhega, phir aap ne hamen namaz nahin padhai, aur nah aap ne qiyam kiya yahan tak ke mahine ki teen raten baki reh gain, to aap ne sattaiswin raat mein hamare sath qiyam kiya, aur apne ahl o aiyal ko bhi jama kiya yahan tak ke hamen dar hua ke kahin hum se falah chhut nah jaye, main ne poocha: falah kya hai? kahne lage: sahari hai.

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفُضَيْلِ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ، قَالَ صُمْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي رَمَضَانَ فَلَمْ يَقُمْ بِنَا حَتَّى بَقِيَ سَبْعٌ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ فَقَامَ بِنَا حَتَّى ذَهَبَ ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَقُمْ بِنَا فِي السَّادِسَةِ فَقَامَ بِنَا فِي الْخَامِسَةِ حَتَّى ذَهَبَ شَطْرُ اللَّيْلِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَوْ نَفَّلْتَنَا بَقِيَّةَ لَيْلَتِنَا هَذِهِ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ إِنَّهُ مَنْ قَامَ مَعَ الإِمَامِ حَتَّى يَنْصَرِفَ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ قِيَامَ لَيْلَةٍ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ لَمْ يُصَلِّ بِنَا وَلَمْ يَقُمْ حَتَّى بَقِيَ ثَلاَثٌ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ فَقَامَ بِنَا فِي الثَّالِثَةِ وَجَمَعَ أَهْلَهُ وَنِسَاءَهُ حَتَّى تَخَوَّفْنَا أَنْ يَفُوتَنَا الْفَلاَحُ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ وَمَا الْفَلاَحُ قَالَ السُّحُورُ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 1606

It was narrated that Abu Dharr said: We fasted with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in Ramadan and he did not lead us in praying Qiyam until there were seven days left in the month, when he led us in praying Qiyam until one-third of the night had passed. Then he did not lead us in praying Qiyam when there were six days left. Then he led us praying Qiyam when there were five days left until one-half of the night had passed. I said: O Messenger of Allah! What if we spend the rest of this night praying Nafl? He said: Whoever prays Qiyam with the Imam until he finishes, Allah (SWT) will record for him the Qiyam of a (whole) night. Then he did not lead us in prayer or pray Qiyam until there were three days of the month left. Then he led us in praying Qiyam when there were three days left. He gathered his family and wives (and led us in prayer) until we feared that we would miss Al-Falah. I (one of the narrators) said: What is Al-Falah? He said: The suhur .

نعیم بن زیاد ابوطلحہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے نعمان بشیر رضی اللہ عنہم کو حمص میں منبر پر بیان کرتے ہوئے سنا، وہ کہہ رہے تھے: ہم نے رسول اللہ ﷺ کے ساتھ رمضان کے مہینے میں تیئسویں رات کو تہائی رات تک قیام کیا، پھر پچسویں رات کو آدھی رات تک قیام کیا، پھر ستائیسویں رات کو ہم نے آپ کے ساتھ قیام کیا یہاں تک کہ ہم نے گمان کیا کہ ہم فلاح نہیں پا سکیں گے، وہ لوگ سحری کو فلاح کا نام دیتے تھے۔

Naeem bin Ziyaad Abu Talha kehte hain ke main ne Numaan Bashir (رضي الله تعالى عنه)um ko Hims mein mimbar par bayan karte hue suna, woh keh rahe the: hum ne Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke saath Ramzan ke mahine mein teisvi raat ko tahai raat tak qiyam kiya, phir pachisvi raat ko aadhi raat tak qiyam kiya, phir satavisvi raat ko hum ne aap ke saath qiyam kiya yahaan tak ke hum ne guman kiya ke hum falah nahin pa sakenge, woh log sahri ko falah ka naam dete the.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي نُعَيْمُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ، عَلَى مِنْبَرِ حِمْصَ يَقُولُ قُمْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ لَيْلَةَ ثَلاَثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ الأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ قُمْنَا مَعَهُ لَيْلَةَ خَمْسٍ وَعِشْرِينَ إِلَى نِصْفِ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ قُمْنَا مَعَهُ لَيْلَةَ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنْ لاَ نُدْرِكَ الْفَلاَحَ وَكَانُوا يُسَمُّونَهُ السُّحُورَ ‏.‏
