Chapter: Mentioning the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (SAW) at night

باب ذِكْرِ صَلاَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِاللَّيْلِ

Sunan an-Nasa'i 1627

Ibn Shihaab narrated that Humaid bin Abdur-Rahman bin Awf (رضي الله تعالى عنه) told me that a man from among the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘when I was on a journey with the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), by Allah (جَلَّ ذُو), I wanted to watch the prayer of the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and see what he does. When he prayed Isha, he lay down for a long time. Then he woke up and looked toward the horizon and said, “Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose” until he reached, “for You never break (Your) Promise”. Then the Apostle of Allah (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) reached across his bed and took a siwak from it, then he poured water from a vessel and cleaned his teeth. Then he stood and prayed. He has prayed for as long as he had slept. Then he lay down and slept as long as he prayed. Then he woke up and did the same as he had done the first time and said the same as he had said. The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) did that three times before Fajr’.

انس رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم رسول اللہ ﷺ کو رات میں نماز  ( تہجد )  پڑھتے ہوئے دیکھنا چاہتے تو دیکھ لیتے، اور آپ کو سوتے ہوئے دیکھنا چاہتے تو دیکھ لیتے تھے ۔

Ins (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke hum rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko raat mein namaz (tahajud) padhte hue dekhna chahte to dekh lete, aur aap ko sote hue dekhna chahte to dekh lete the

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا يَزِيدُ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ مَا كُنَّا نَشَاءُ أَنْ نَرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي اللَّيْلِ مُصَلِّيًا إِلاَّ رَأَيْنَاهُ وَلاَ نَشَاءُ أَنْ نَرَاهُ نَائِمًا إِلاَّ رَأَيْنَاهُ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 1628

Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated, ‘every time we wanted to see the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) praying at night we saw him, and every time we wanted to see him sleeping, we saw him’.

یعلیٰ بن مملک سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے رسول اللہ ﷺ کی نماز کے بارے میں سوال کیا، تو انہوں نے کہا: آپ عتمہ  ( عشاء کی نماز )  پڑھتے تھے پھر سنتیں پڑھتے، پھر اس کے بعد رات میں جتنا اللہ چاہتا پڑھتے، پھر آپ واپس جا کر جتنی دیر تک آپ نے نماز پڑھی تھی اسی کے بقدر سوتے، پھر آپ اپنی اس نیند سے بیدار ہوتے تو جتنی دیر تک سوئے تھے اسی کے بقدر نماز پڑھتے، اور آپ کی یہ دوسری مرتبہ والی نماز صبح  ( فجر )  تک جاری رہتی۔

Yaliٰ bin Mamlak se riwayat hai ke unhon ne Ummul Momineen Umm-e-Salma radiallahu anha se Rasoolallah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki namaz ke bare mein sawal kiya, to unhon ne kaha: Aap Utamh (Asha ki namaz) padhte the phir sunnaten padhte, phir uske baad raat mein jitna Allah chahta padhte, phir aap wapas ja kar jitni der tak aap ne namaz padhi thi usi ke badar sote, phir aap apni is neend se beedar hote to jitni der tak soye the usi ke badar namaz padhte, aur aap ki yeh doosri martaba wali namaz subh (Fajr) tak jaari rehti.

أَخْبَرَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، أَنَّ يَعْلَى بْنَ مَمْلَكٍ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ، سَأَلَ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ صَلاَةِ، رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَتْ كَانَ يُصَلِّي الْعَتَمَةَ ثُمَّ يُسَبِّحُ ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي بَعْدَهَا مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ يَنْصَرِفُ فَيَرْقُدُ مِثْلَ مَا صَلَّى ثُمَّ يَسْتَيْقِظُ مِنْ نَوْمِهِ ذَلِكَ فَيُصَلِّي مِثْلَ مَا نَامَ وَصَلاَتُهُ تِلْكَ الآخِرَةُ تَكُونُ إِلَى الصُّبْحِ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 1629

Ya'la bin Mamlak narrated that he asked Ummul Momineen Umm Salama (رضي الله تعالى عنها) about the prayer of the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and she said, ‘He used to pray Isha, then he would recite tasbih, then after that he would pray whatever Allah (جَلَّ ذُو) willed (he should pray) of night prayer. Then he would go and sleep for as long as he had prayed. Then he would get up from sleep and pray for as long as he had slept, and this last prayer of his would continue until dawn’.

یعلیٰ بن مملک سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے رسول اللہ ﷺ کی قرآت اور آپ کی نماز کے متعلق سوال کیا، تو انہوں نے کہا: تمہیں آپ کی نماز سے کیا سروکار؟ ۱؎ آپ نماز پڑھتے تھے، پھر جتنی دیر تک آپ نے نماز پڑھی تھی اسی کے بقدر آپ سوتے، پھر جتنی دیر تک سوئے تھے اسی کے بقدر آپ اٹھ کر نماز پڑھتے، پھر جتنی دیر تک نماز پڑھی تھی اسی کے بقدر آپ سوتے یہاں تک کہ آپ صبح کرتے، پھر انہوں نے ان سے آپ کی قرآت کی کیفیت بیان کی، تو وہ ایک ایک حرف واضح کر کے بیان کر رہی تھیں۔

Ya'li bin Mamlak se riwayat hai ke unhon ne Ummul Momineen Umm Salma radiyallahu anha se Rasoolallah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki qirat aur aap ki namaz ke mutalliq sawal kiya, to unhon ne kaha: Tumhein aap ki namaz se kya sarokaar? 1 ؎ Aap namaz padhte the, phir jitni der tak aap ne namaz padhi thi usi ke baqadar aap sote, phir jitni der tak suye the usi ke baqadar aap uth kar namaz padhte, phir jitni der tak namaz padhi thi usi ke baqadar aap sote yahan tak ke aap subah karte, phir unhon ne un se aap ki qirat ki kayfiyat bayan ki, to woh aik aik harf wazeh kar ke bayan kar rahi thi.

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ مَمْلَكٍ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنْ قِرَاءَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَعَنْ صَلاَتِهِ فَقَالَتْ مَا لَكُمْ وَصَلاَتَهُ كَانَ يُصَلِّي ثُمَّ يَنَامُ قَدْرَ مَا صَلَّى ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي قَدْرَ مَا نَامَ ثُمَّ يَنَامُ قَدْرَ مَا صَلَّى حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ نَعَتَتْ لَهُ قِرَاءَتَهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَنْعَتُ قِرَاءَةً مُفَسَّرَةً حَرْفًا حَرْفًا ‏.‏
