Chapter: The Numbre of Takbirs in the Funeral Prayer

باب عَدَدِ التَّكْبِيرِ عَلَى الْجَنَازَةِ ‏‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 1980

Ibn Juraij said: I heard Naji, claim that Ibn 'Umar offered the funeral prayer for nine together. He put the men closer to the Imam and the women closer to the Qiblah, and he placed them (the women) in one row. And the body of Umm Kulthum bint 'Ali the wife of 'Umar bin Al-Khattab, and a son of hers called Zaid were placed together. The Imam that day was Saeed bin Al-As and among the people were Ibn 'Umar, Abu Hurairah, Abu Saeed and Abu Qatadah. The boy was placed closer to the Imam. A man said something objecting to that, so I looked at Ibn 'Abbas, Abu Hurairah, Abu Saeed and Abu Qatadah and said: 'What is this?' They said: 'It is the Sunnah.

ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے لوگوں کو نجاشی کی موت کی خبر دی، اور آپ ان کے ساتھ نکلے تو ان کی صف بندی کی، ( اور ) چار تکبیریں کہیں۔

Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se riwayat hai ke Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne logon ko Najashi ki maut ki khabar di, aur aap un ke sath nikle to un ki saf bandi ki, ( aur ) char takbiriyan kahin.

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَعَى لِلنَّاسِ النَّجَاشِيَّ وَخَرَجَ بِهِمْ فَصَفَّ بِهِمْ وَكَبَّرَ أَرْبَعَ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 1981

Samurah bin Jundab (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) offered the funeral prayer for a mother who had died in childbirth, and he stood in line with her middle.

ابوامامہ بن سہل رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ عوالی والوں ۱؎ میں سے ایک عورت بیمار ہوئی، اور نبی اکرم ﷺ بیمار کی بیمار پرسی سب سے زیادہ کرتے تھے، تو آپ نے فرمایا: ”جب یہ مر جائے تو مجھے خبر کرنا“ تو وہ رات میں مر گئی، اور لوگوں نے اسے دفنا دیا اور نبی اکرم ﷺ کو خبر نہیں کیا، جب آپ نے صبح کی تو اس کے بارے میں پوچھا، تو لوگوں نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! ہم نے آپ کو بیدار کرنا مناسب نہیں سمجھا، آپ اس کی قبر پر آئے، اور اس پر نماز جنازہ پڑھی اور ( اس میں ) چار تکبیریں کہیں۔

Aboamama bin Suhail (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Awali walon mein se ek aurat beemar hui, aur Nabi akram (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) beemar ki beemari parsi sab se zyada karte the, to aap ne farmaya: jab yeh mar jaye to mujhe khabar karna. To woh raat mein mar gai, aur logoon ne use dafna dia aur Nabi akram (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko khabar nahi kiya, jab aap ne subah ki to is ke bare mein pucha, to logoon ne kaha: Allah ke Rasool! Hum ne aap ko bedaar karna munasib nahi samjha, aap is ki qabr par aaye, aur is per namaz janaza padhi aur (is mein) char takbeerein kaheen.

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلٍ، قَالَ مَرِضَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعَوَالِي وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَحْسَنَ شَىْءٍ عِيَادَةً لِلْمَرِيضِ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ إِذَا مَاتَتْ فَآذِنُونِي ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَمَاتَتْ لَيْلاً فَدَفَنُوهَا وَلَمْ يُعْلِمُوا النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ سَأَلَ عَنْهَا فَقَالُوا كَرِهْنَا أَنْ نُوقِظَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏.‏ فَأَتَى قَبْرَهَا فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا وَكَبَّرَ أَرْبَعًا ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 1982

Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) announced the death of An-Najashi (رضي الله تعالى عنه) to the people, and he led them out and arranged them in rows and said the Takbir four times.

ابن ابی لیلیٰ سے روایت ہے کہ زید بن ارقم رضی اللہ عنہ نے ایک میت کی نماز جنازہ پڑھائی تو ( اس میں ) پانچ تکبیریں کہیں، اور کہا: رسول اللہ ﷺ نے بھی اتنی ہی تکبیریں کہیں تھیں۔

Ibn Abi Laila se riwayat hai ke Zaiid bin Arqam (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne aik mait ki namaz janaza padhai to ( is mein ) panch takbiraan kahain, aur kaha: Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne bhi itni hi takbiraan kahain thin.

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، أَنَّ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ، صَلَّى عَلَى جَنَازَةٍ فَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهَا خَمْسًا وَقَالَ كَبَّرَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏
