Abu Sa' eed Al-Khudri (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that at the time of the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), they used to give a Sa'a of barley, or dates, or raisins, or cottage cheese, and they continued to do so until the time of Mu'awiyah (رضي الله تعالى عنه), when he said, he considered that two Mudds of wheat from Syria are equivalent to a Sa'a of barley.’

ابو سعید خدری رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم رسول اللہ ﷺ کے زمانہ میں صدقہ فطر ایک صاع جَو یا کھجور یا انگور یا پنیر نکالتے تھے۔ اور ہم برابر ایسا ہی کرتے چلے آ رہے تھے یہاں تک کہ معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ کا زمانہ آیا۔ تو انہوں نے کہا: میں سمجھتا ہوں کہ شامی گیہوں کے دو مد ( یعنی نصف صاع ) جو کے ایک صاع کے برابر ہیں۔
Abu Saeed Khudri (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke hum Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke zamanah mein sadaqah fitr ek sa' jaw ya khajur ya angoor ya paneer nikalte they. Aur hum barabar aisa hi karte chale aa rahe they yahan tak ke Muawiyah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ka zamanah aaya. To unhon ne kaha: Main samjhta hun ke Shami gehun ke do mad ( yani niff sa' ) jo ke ek sa' ke barabar hain.
أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عِيَاضٌ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ كُنَّا نُخْرِجُ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ أَوْ تَمْرٍ أَوْ زَبِيبٍ أَوْ أَقِطٍ فَلَمْ نَزَلْ كَذَلِكَ حَتَّى كَانَ فِي عَهْدِ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ مَا أَرَى مُدَّيْنِ مِنْ سَمْرَاءِ الشَّامِ إِلاَّ تَعْدِلُ صَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ .
