Chapter: Marriage For Islam

باب التَّزْوِيجِ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 3340

Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) forbade Ash-Shighar.’ (One of the narrators) Ubaidullah said, ‘Ash-Shighar means when a man gives his daughter in marriage on condition that (the other man) gives him his sister in marriage.’

انس رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ابوطلحہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے ام سلیم رضی اللہ عنہا سے نکاح کیا، تو ان کے درمیان مہر ( ابوطلحہ کا ) اسلام قبول کر لینا طے پایا تھا، ام سلیم ابوطلحہ سے پہلے ایمان لائیں، ابوطلحہ نے انہیں شادی کا پیغام دیا، تو انہوں نے کہا: میں اسلام لے آئی ہوں ( میں غیر مسلم سے شادی نہیں کر سکتی ) ، آپ اگر اسلام قبول کر لیں تو میں آپ سے شادی کر سکتی ہوں، تو انہوں نے اسلام قبول کر لیا، اور یہی اسلام ان دونوں کے درمیان مہر قرار پایا۔

Ins رضی اللہ عنہ kehte hain ke Abu Talha رضی اللہ عنہ ne Umm Salim رضی اللہ عنہa se nikah kiya, to un ke darmiyan mehr ( Abu Talha ka ) Islam kabul kar lena taye paya tha, Umm Salim Abu Talha se pehle iman lain, Abu Talha ne unhen shadi ka peigham diya, to unhon ne kaha: main Islam le aayi hon ( main ghair muslim se shadi nahin kar sakti ), aap agar Islam kabul kar lein to main aap se shadi kar sakti hon, to unhon ne Islam kabul kar liya, aur yahi Islam in dono ke darmiyan mehr qarar paya.

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ تَزَوَّجَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ فَكَانَ صَدَاقُ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا الإِسْلاَمَ أَسْلَمَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ قَبْلَ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ فَخَطَبَهَا فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي قَدْ أَسْلَمْتُ فَإِنْ أَسْلَمْتَ نَكَحْتُكَ ‏.‏ فَأَسْلَمَ فَكَانَ صَدَاقَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 3341

Sahl bin Sa'd (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that a woman came to the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and said, ‘O Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), I have come to offer myself to you (in marriage).’ The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) looked her up and down then lowered his head. When the woman saw that he was not saying anything about her, she sat down. A man among his Companions stood up and said, ‘O Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), if you do not want to marry her, then marry me to her.’ He said, ‘do you have anything? He said, ‘no, by Allah, I do not have anything.’ He said, ‘look, even if it is only an iron ring.’ He went, then he came back and said, ‘no, by Allah, O Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), not even an iron ring, but this is my Izar (lower garment)’ - Sahl (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said, he did not have a Rida' (upper garment), she can have half of it.’ The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘what could she do with your Izar? If you wear it, she will not have any of it, and if she wears it, you will not have any of it.’ The man sat down for a long time, then he got up, and the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) saw him leaving, so he ordered that he be called back. When he came, he said, ‘what do you know of the Qur'an?’ He said, ‘I know Surah such-and-such, and Surah such-and-such,’ and listed them. He said, ‘can you recite them by heart?" He said, ‘yes." He said, ‘then I marry you to her on the basis of what you know of the Qur'an.’

انس رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ابوطلحہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے ( ان کی والدہ ) ام سلیم رضی اللہ عنہا کو شادی کا پیغام دیا تو انہوں نے انہیں جواب دیا: قسم اللہ کی، ابوطلحہ! آپ جیسوں کا پیغام لوٹایا نہیں جا سکتا، لیکن آپ ایک کافر شخص ہیں اور میں ایک مسلمان عورت ہوں، میرے لیے حلال نہیں کہ میں آپ سے شادی کروں، لیکن اگر آپ اسلام قبول کر لیں، تو یہی آپ کا اسلام قبول کر لینا ہی میرا مہر ہو گا اس کے سوا مجھے کچھ اور نہیں چاہیئے ۱؎ تو وہ اسلام لے آئے اور یہی چیز ان کی مہر قرار پائی۔ ثابت کہتے ہیں: میں نے کسی عورت کے متعلق کبھی نہیں سنا جس کی مہر ام سلیم رضی اللہ عنہا کی مہر اسلام سے بڑھ کر اور باعزت رہی ہو۔ ابوطلحہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان سے صحبت و قربت اختیار کی اور انہوں نے ان سے بچے جنے۔

Ins (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Abu Talha (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne ( un ki walidah ) Umme Salim razi Allahu 'anha ko shadi ka paygham diya to unhon ne unhen jawab diya: Qasam Allah ki, Abu Talha! Aap jaison ka paygham lootya nahin ja sakta, lekin aap ek kafir shakhsh hain aur main ek musalman aurat hun, mere liye halal nahin ke main aap se shadi karun, lekin agar aap Islam qabool kar lein, to yahi aap ka Islam qabool kar lena hi mera mehr hoga is ke siwa mujhe kuchh aur nahin chahiye ۱؎ to woh Islam le aaye aur yahi cheez un ki mehr qarar pai. Thabit kehte hain: main ne kisi aurat ke mutalliq kabhi nahin suna jis ki mehr Umme Salim razi Allahu 'anha ki mehr Islam se barh kar aur ba'izzat rahi ho. Abu Talha (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne un se suhbat o qurbat ikhtiyar ki aur unhon ne un se bacche jiney.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ بْنِ مُسَاوِرٍ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ خَطَبَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ فَقَالَتْ وَاللَّهِ مَا مِثْلُكَ يَا أَبَا طَلْحَةَ يُرَدُّ وَلَكِنَّكَ رَجُلٌ كَافِرٌ وَأَنَا امْرَأَةٌ مُسْلِمَةٌ وَلاَ يَحِلُّ لِي أَنْ أَتَزَوَّجَكَ فَإِنْ تُسْلِمْ فَذَاكَ مَهْرِي وَمَا أَسْأَلُكَ غَيْرَهُ ‏.‏ فَأَسْلَمَ فَكَانَ ذَلِكَ مَهْرَهَا - قَالَ ثَابِتٌ فَمَا سَمِعْتُ بِامْرَأَةٍ قَطُّ كَانَتْ أَكْرَمَ مَهْرًا مِنْ أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ الإِسْلاَمَ - فَدَخَلَ بِهَا فَوَلَدَتْ لَهُ ‏.‏
