Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the delegation of 'Abdul-Qais came to the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and said, 'we are a group of people from (the tribe of) Rabi'ah, and we can only reach you during the sacred month. Tell us something that we can take from you and to which we may call those who are behind us.' He said, 'I command you to do four things and I forbid you from four. Iman in Allah', and he explained that 'bearing witness that there is no god but Allah, establishing Salah, paying Zakah, and giving me one-fifth (the Khumus) of the spoils of war you acquire. And I forbid you from Ad-Dubba', Al-Hantam, Al-Muqayyir, and Al-Muzaffat.'

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ کے پاس بنی عبدقیس کا وفد آیا، تو ان لوگوں بت کہا: ہم لوگ قبیلہ ربیعہ سے ہیں، ہم آپ تک حرمت والے مہینوں کے علاوہ کبھی نہیں آ سکتے تو آپ ہمیں کچھ باتوں کا حکم دیجئیے جو ہم آپ سے سیکھیں اور جو ہمارے پیچھے رہ گئے ہیں اسے ان تک پہنچا سکیں، آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”میں تمہیں چار باتوں کا حکم دیتا ہوں اور چار باتوں سے روکتا ہوں: اللہ پر ایمان -پھر آپ نے اس کی تشریح کی کہ ایک تو گواہی دینا کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود برحق نہیں اور میں اللہ کا رسول ہوں - دوسرے نماز قائم کرنا، تیسرے زکاۃ کی ادائیگی، چوتھے یہ کہ مال غنیمت کا پانچواں ( خمس ) مجھے لا کر دینا، اور میں تمہیں روکتا ہوں: ( تمبی ) کدو کے بنے پیالے، لاکھی ( سبز رنگ ) کے برتنوں، لکڑی کے برتنوں اور تار کول ملے ہوئے برتنوں کے استعمال سے“ ۔
Abdul-Allah bin Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a kehte hain ke Rasul-ullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke pass Bani Abdul-Qais ka wafd aya, to in logoon bat kaha: hum log Qabile Rabia se hain, hum aap tak harmat walay mahinon ke alawa kabhi nahin aa sakte to aap hamen kuchh baton ka hukm dejiye jo hum aap se seekhen aur jo hamare pichhe reh gaye hain usse in tak pahuncha saken, aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: "main tumhen char baton ka hukm deta hun aur char baton se rokta hun: Allah par iman -phir aap ne is ki tashrih ki ke ek to gawahi dena ke Allah ke siwa koi ma'bud barhaq nahin aur main Allah ka rasul hun - dosre namaz qaim karna, teesre zakat ki adaigi, chauthay yeh ke maal ghanimat ka panchwa ( khums ) mujhe la kar dena, aur main tumhen rokta hun: ( tambi ) kadu ke bane piyale, lakhi ( sabz rang ) ke bartanon, lakdi ke bartanon aur tar kol mile huye bartanon ke istemaal se" 1؎.
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَبَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَمْرَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَدِمَ وَفْدُ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا هَذَا الْحَيَّ مِنْ رَبِيعَةَ وَلَسْنَا نَصِلُ إِلَيْكَ إِلَّا فِي الشَّهْرِ الْحَرَامِ فَمُرْنَا بِشَيْءٍ نَأْخُذُهُ عَنْكَ وَنَدْعُو إِلَيْهِ مَنْ وَرَاءَنَا فَقَالَ آمُرُكُمْ بِأَرْبَعٍ وَأَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْ أَرْبَعٍ الْإِيمَانُ بِاللَّهِ ثُمَّ فَسَّرَهَا لَهُمْ شَهَادَةُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَإِقَامُ الصَّلَاةِ وَإِيتَاءُ الزَّكَاةِ وَأَنْ تُؤَدُّوا إِلَيَّ خُمُسَ مَا غَنِمْتُمْ وَأَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْحَنْتَمِ وَالْمُقَيَّرِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ
