Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضي الله تعالى عنها) narrated that a woman reached out her hand (to give) a letter to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), and he withdrew his hand. She said, ‘O Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), I reached out my hand (to give you) a letter and you did not take it.’ He said, ‘I did not know whether it was the hand of a woman or a man.’ She said, ‘it is the hand of a woman.’ He said, ‘if you were a woman, you would change your nails (by dyeing them with Henna).’

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ ایک عورت نے نبی اکرم ﷺ کو خط دینے کے لیے اپنا ہاتھ بڑھایا تو آپ نے اپنا ہاتھ کھینچ لیا، وہ بولی: اللہ کے رسول! میں نے ایک خط دینے کے لیے آپ کی طرف ہاتھ بڑھایا تو آپ نے اسے نہیں لیا۔ آپ نے فرمایا: ”مجھے نہیں معلوم کہ وہ عورت کا ہاتھ ہے یا مرد کا“، میں نے عرض کیا: عورت کا ہاتھ ہے۔ آپ نے فرمایا: ”اگر تم عورت ہوتی تو اپنے ناخنوں کو مہندی سے رنگا ہوتا“ ۔
ummul momineen ayesha radhiallahu anha se riwayat hai ke ek aurat ne nabi akram sallallahu alaihi wassalam ko khat dene ke liye apna hath badhaya to aap ne apna hath kheench liya, woh boli: allah ke rasul! main ne ek khat dene ke liye aap ki taraf hath badhaya to aap ne use nahin liya. aap ne farmaya: ”mujhe nahin maloom ke woh aurat ka hath hai ya mard ka“, main ne arz kiya: aurat ka hath hai. aap ne farmaya: ”agar tum aurat hoti to apne nakhon ko mehndi se رنگا hota“ 1؎.
أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعَلَّى بْنُ أَسَدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُطِيعُ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ، حَدَّثَتْنَا صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ عِصْمَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً، مَدَّتْ يَدَهَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِكِتَابٍ فَقَبَضَ يَدَهُ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَدَدْتُ يَدِي إِلَيْكَ بِكِتَابٍ فَلَمْ تَأْخُذْهُ . فَقَالَ " إِنِّي لَمْ أَدْرِ أَيَدُ امْرَأَةٍ هِيَ أَوْ رَجُلٍ " . قَالَتْ بَلْ يَدُ امْرَأَةٍ . قَالَ " لَوْ كُنْتِ امْرَأَةً لَغَيَّرْتِ أَظْفَارَكِ بِالْحِنَّاءِ " .
