Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "My Ummah (nation) will be fragmented into 73 sects, all of which will be in the Fire (i.e., Hell) except one (that will be in Paradise)." The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Which group will that be?" He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: "The one which will be upon the same (path and understanding of Islam) as I am and my Companions are today."

سیدنا انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”اس امّت کے (73) تہتر فرقے ہوں گے، جو سب کے سب جہنم میں جایئں گے مگر ایک (جنّت میں جائے گا)“ صحابہ رضی اللہ عنہم نے پوچھا: یا رسول اللہ ﷺ ! وہ کون سا فرقہ ہو گا؟ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”جس طریقہ پر آج میں اور میرے صحابہ ہیں۔“
Sayyidina Anas bin Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ki Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: “Is ummat ke (73) tihattar firqe honge, jo sab ke sab jahannam mein jayenge magar ek (jannat mein jayega)” Sahaba (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne poocha: Ya Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)! Woh kaun sa firqa hoga? Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: “Jis tareeqe par aaj main aur mere sahaba hain”.
حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ السِّمْسَارُ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ الْمَدَنِيُّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ:"تَفْتَرِقُ هَذِهِ الأُمَّةُ عَلَى ثَلاثٍ وَسَبْعِينَ فِرْقَةً كُلُّهُمْ فِي النَّارِ إِلا وَاحِدَةً، قَالُوا: وَمَا هِيَ تِلْكَ الْفُرْقَةُ؟، قَالَ: مَا أَنَا عَلَيْهِ الْيَوْمَ وَأَصْحَابِي"، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ يَحْيَى، إِلا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ
