Khaalid bin Umayr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) and Shaweesa (رضي الله تعالى عنه) Reported that Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) instructed Utbah bin "Anhu Ghazwaan (رضي الله تعالى عنه) that he should go with his companions (who consisted of three hundred mujahideen) towards the Ajami lands. And said: When you reach the boundary of the Arabian country, set up camp.there". (The reason was that Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) received 1O reports that the Ajamis intended attacking the Arab lands. In other narrations Yazdajard had asked the Ajamis for aid. This was on their path. For this reason Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) sent an army to set up a blockade and seal the way) The army left, and when they reached Marbad Basrah, they saw strange white stones. The people first began asking one another, what is this? The people said it was Basrah. (Basrah in the original language means whitish stones. Subsequently this became the name of the town. As if they had answered that this was also a type of stone). After that they went forward (according to the instructions of Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه)) till they reached the small bridge (of the Dajlah). The people said, this is the place (that Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) had chosen), and set up camp there. The narrator narrated the full incident (i.e. the coming of the army from Khuraasaan and the victory of Utbah (رضي الله تعالى عنه)). (As the intention of Imaam Tirmidhi is to describe the hardships and poverty, which will be mentioned at the end of the narration, he has shortened this narration. Utbah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) recited a khutbah after the victory, which is mentioned in the Arabic commentary. In this khutbah he mentioned the temporary nature of this world, and that the hereafter is everlasting and ete al etc. After the hamd and thana, he said: "The world is going to come to an end, and it is tu ing its face and going away. Only so much of the world is left, as when water is used up from a dish, and in the end only a little drop is left in it. You are going towards such a world which is everlasting and which will never come to an end. Therefore it is necessary that you go to such a world with the best you can attain, because it has been shown to us that jahannam which is the abode for those who disobey Allah is so deep that if a pebble is thrown into it from the upper portion, it will not reach the bottom after seventy years. This place will be packed with people. How important it is that we take heed at this place. We have also been shown that jannahwhich is the abode for those who obey Allah is so vast that the width of its door from one side to the other is the distance of forty years. It will also be filled with people. Therefore adopt only such deeds that will save one from the first abode, and will gain for one entrance in the abode of Allahs Pleasure. After that he mentioned his past condition, "I had witnessed with Rasulullah ﷺ this conditions that I am from among those seven people who were with Rasulullah ﷺ. We had nothing with us besides the leaves of trees for eating. Our mouths became bruised by eating it. Incidently I obtained a sheet, which I shared in half with Sad. (Even in this world of distress and difficulty, Allah Taaal, blessed them with this reward). There is none among the seven of us who has not been appointed an amir of some place. (Because this group endured many hardships and made many sacrifices before they were appointed amirs, therefore the treatment of their groups was of the best which will be known from the experiences of the Amirs after this) You will in the near future experience the trials of those who will come after this".
’’ابو نعامہ عدوی کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے خالد بن عمیر اور ابو الرقاد شویس سے سنا، وہ فرما تے تھے کہ امیر المومنین سیدنا عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ نے عتبہ بن غزوان رضی اللہ عنہ کو (ایک لشکر پر امیر مقرر کر کے) بھیجا اور فرمایا: ’’تم اور تمہارے ساتھی سر زمین عرب کی انتہا اور سر زمین عجم کے قریب تک جاؤ (جب وہاں پہنچو) تو وہاں قیام کرنا، یہ تمام لوگ وہاں پہنچے، جب مقام مربد میں پہنچے تو وہاں انہوں نے سنگ مرمر پایا تو پوچھا یہ کونسی جگہ ہے؟ لوگوں نے کہا: یہ بصرہ ہے، تو وہ اور چلتے گئے حتیٰ کہ (دجلہ کے) چھوٹے پل کے پاس پہنچ گئے تو کہنے لگے: اسی مقام پر تمہیں پڑاؤ کرنے کا حکم دیا گیا ہے چنانچہ انہوں نے وہیں پڑاؤ کیا۔ پھر انہوں نے لمبی حدیث بیان کی۔ راوی کہتا ہے: پھر عتبۃ بن غزوان رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا: میں خود کو دیکھتا ہوں کہ میں نبی اکرم ﷺ کے ساتھ ساتواں شخص تھا، ہمارا کھانا صرف درختوں کے پتے تھے جن کے کھانے سے ہمارے جبڑے پھٹ گئے تھے۔ مجھے گری ہوئی ایک چادر ملی جس کو میں نے اپنے اور سعد کے درمیان آدھی آدھی تقسیم کر لیا۔ اب ہم ان ساتوں میں سے ہر کوئی کسی نہ کسی علاقے کا (امیر) گورنر بن گیا ہے، اور تم عنقریب ہمارے بعد آنے والے امراء کا تجربہ کر لو گے۔‘‘
Abu Noama Advi kehte hain ke maine Khalid bin Umair aur Abu Al Raqaad Shoais se suna, wo farmate thy ke Ameer-ul-Momineen Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne Utba bin Ghazwain (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ko (ek lashkar par ameer muqarar kar ke) bheja aur farmaya: ''Tum aur tumhare sathi sar zameen Arab ki intiha aur sar zameen Ajam ke qareeb tak jao (jab wahan pahuncho) to wahan qayam karna, ye tamam log wahan pahunche, jab maqam Marbad mein pahunche to wahan unhon ne sang-e-marmar paya to poocha ye konsi jaga hai? Logon ne kaha: Ye Busra hai, to wo aur chalte gaye hatta ke (Dajla ke) chhote pul ke paas pahunche to kehne lage: Isi maqam par tumhen padav karne ka hukum diya gaya hai chunancha unhon ne wahin padav kiya. Phir unhon ne lambi hadees bayaan ki. Ravi kehta hai: Phir Utba bin Ghazwain (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne farmaya: Main khud ko dekhta hun ke main Nabi Akram (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke sath satwan shakhs tha, hamara khana sirf darakhton ke patte thy jin ke khane se hamare jabade phat gaye thy. Mujhe giri hui ek chadar mili jis ko maine apne aur Saad ke darmiyan aadhi aadhi taqseem kar liya. Ab hum un saaton mein se har koi kisi na kisi ilaqe ka (ameer) governor ban gaya hai, aur tum anqareeb hamare baad aane wale umara ka tajriba kar lo ge.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ عِيسَى، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عِيسَى أَبُو نَعَامَةَ الْعَدَوِيُّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ خَالِدَ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ، وَشُوَيْسًا أَبَا الرَّقَادِ، قَالَا: بَعَثَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ عُتْبَةَ بْنَ غَزْوَانَ وَقَالَ: انْطَلِقْ أَنْتَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ، حَتَّى إِذَا كُنْتُمْ فِي أَقْصَى بِلَادِ الْعَرَبِ، وَأَدْنَى بِلَادِ الْعَجَمِ فَأَقْبِلُوا، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا بِالْمِرْبَدِ وَجَدُوا هَذَا الْكِذَّانَ، فَقَالُوا: مَا هَذِهِ؟ قَالُوا: هَذِهِ الْبَصْرَةُ فَسَارُوا حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغُوا حِيَالَ الْجِسْرِ الصَّغِيرِ، فَقَالُوا: هَهُنَا أُمِرْتُمْ، فَنَزَلُوا - فَذَكَرُوا الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ - قَالَ: فَقَالَ عُتْبَةُ بْنُ غَزْوَانَ: ((لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي وَإِنِّي لَسَابِعُ سَبْعَةٍ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا لَنَا طَعَامٌ إِلَا وَرَقَ الشَّجَرِ حَتَّى تَقَرَّحَتْ أَشْدَاقُنَا، فَالْتَقَطْتُ بُرْدَةً قَسَمْتُهَا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ سَعْدٍ، فَمَا مِنَّا مِنْ أَولَئِكَ السَّبْعَةِ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا وَهُوَ أَمِيرُ مِصْرٍ مِنَ الْأَمْصَارِ وَسَتُجَرِّبُونَ الْأُمَرَاءَ بَعْدَنَا))
