كِتَابُ الطِّبِّ
Who disliked medicine and did not endorse it.
مَنْ كَرِهَ الطِّبَّ وَلَمْ يَرَهُ

It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdul Malik bin 'Umair that Rabi' bin Khaytham was asked during his illness, "Shall we call a physician for you?" He said, "Give me some respite." Then he reflected for a while and said, "{And 'Aad, and Thamud, and the companions of the Rass, and many generations between them. And for all of them We have made examples; and all of them We have utterly destroyed.}” Then he mentioned the greed of those people for the world and their preoccupation with it, and said, “These people too were sick, and among them were physicians. So there is no one to take medicine, nor is there anyone to give it. The one who praises has perished, and the one who was praised has perished. By Allah, do not call a physician for me.
حضرت عبد الملک بن عمیر سے روایت ہے۔ کہتے ہیں کہ ربیع بن خثیم کو ان کی بیماری میں پوچھا گیا کہ کیا ہم آپ کے لیے طبیب کو بُلائیں ؟ انھوں نے فرمایا۔ تم مجھے مہلت دے دو ، پھر انھوں نے غور و فکر فرمایا اور کہا : { وَعَادًا وَثَمُودَ وَأَصْحَابَ الرَّسِّ وَقُرُونًا بَیْنَ ذَلِکَ کَثِیرًا وَکَُلاًّ ضَرَبْنَا لَہُ الأَمْثَالَ وَکُلاًّ تَبَّرْنَا تَتْبِیرًا } پھر انھوں نے ان لوگوں دنیا پر حرص اور ان کی دنیا میں دلچسپی کا ذکر کیا، فرمایا : یہ لوگ بھی مریض تھے۔ اور ان میں اطباء بھی تھے۔ پس نہ کوئی دوائی لینے والا ہے نہ کوئی دوائی دینے والا ہے۔ تعریف کرنے والا بھی ہلاک ہوگیا اور جس کی تعریف کی گئی وہ بھی ہلاک ہوگیا۔ خدا کی قسم ! تم لوگ میرے لیے طبیب کو نہ بلاؤ۔
Hazrat Abd al-Malik bin Umair se riwayat hai. Kahte hain ki Rabia bin Khathim ko un ki bimari mein poocha gaya ki kya hum aap ke liye tabib ko bulayen? Unhon ne farmaya. Tum mujhe mohlat de do, phir unhon ne ghaur o fikr farmaya aur kaha: {Wa AAadanw wa Thamuda wa As-haab al-Rassi wa Qoroonan bayna thalika kaseeranw wa kullann darabna lahu al-amthala wa kullann tabarna tatbeeran} Phir unhon ne un logon duniya par hars aur un ki duniya mein dilchaspi ka zikr kiya, farmaya: Ye log bhi mariz the. Aur un mein atibba bhi the. Pas na koi dawai lene wala hai na koi dawai dene wala hai. Tareef karne wala bhi halak ho gaya aur jis ki tareef ki gayi wo bhi halak ho gaya. Khuda ki qasam! Tum log mere liye tabib ko na bulao.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : قِيلَ لِلرَّبِيعِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ فِي مَرَضِهِ : أَلَا نَدْعُو لَكَ الطَّبِيبَ ؟ قَالَ : « أَنْظِرُونِي »، ثُمَّ تَفَكَّرَ فَقَالَ : ﴿ وَعَادًا وَثَمُودَ وَأَصْحَابَ الرَّسِّ وَقُرُونًا بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ كَثِيرًا وَكُلًّا ضَرَبْنَا لَهُ الْأَمْثَالَ وَكُلًّا تَبَّرْنَا تَتْبِيرًا ﴾ [ الفرقان : ٣٩ ] فَذَكَرَ مِنْ حِرْصِهِمْ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا وَرَغْبَتِهِمْ فِيهَا ، قَالَ : « فَقَدْ كَانَتْ فِيهِمْ مَرْضَى ، وَكَانَ فِيهِمْ أَطِبَّاءُ ، فَلَا الدَّاوِي بَقِيَ وَلَا الْمُدَاوَى ، هَلَكَ النَّاعِتُ وَالْمَنْعُوتُ لَهُ ، وَاللَّهِ لَا تَدْعُوا لِي طَبِيبًا »
