كِتَابُ الزُّهْدِ
The Words of Umar ibn al-Khattab
كَلَامُ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ﵁

It is narrated from Hazrat Younis that he said that whenever Hazrat Hassan used to mention Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he used to say, "By God! These companions were not the first to accept Islam from among the companions. And neither were they superior to the rest of the companions in spending in the way of Allah. But still, these companions were superior to all in their detachment from the world and their firm determination in the command of Allah. And they did not fear the blame of any blamer in the matter of Allah."
حضرت یونس سے روایت ہے وہ کہتے ہیں کہ حضرت حسن جب کبھی حضرت عمر (رض) کا ذکر کرتے تو کہتے خدا کی قسم ! یہ صحابہ کرام میں سے اسلام لانے میں اول نہ تھے۔ اور بقیہ صحابہ (رض) سے راہ خدا میں خرچ کے معاملہ میں بھی افضل نہ تھے لیکن پھر بھی یہ صحابہ (رض) میں سب پر دنیا سے بےرغبتی، خدا کے حکم میں پختہ عزمی کی وجہ سے غالب تھے۔ اور اللہ کے معاملہ میں کسی ملامت کرنے والے کی ملامت کا خوف نہیں کرتے تھے۔

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَرْوَانَ ، عَنْ ، يُونُسَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ الْحَسَنُ رُبَّمَا ذَكَرَ عُمَرَ ، فَيَقُولُ : « وَاللَّهِ مَا كَانَ بِأَوَّلِهِمْ إِسْلَامًا وَلَا بِأَفْضَلِهِمْ نَفَقَةً فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، وَلَكِنَّهُ غَلَبَ النَّاسَ بِالزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالصَّرَامَةِ فِي أَمْرِ اللَّهِ ، وَلَا يَخَافُ فِي اللَّهِ لَوْمَةَ لَائِمٍ »
