كِتَابُ الزُّهْدِ
The Words of Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz
كَلَامُ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 35085
It is narrated on the authority of Yahya bin Saeed that he said: It has reached me that Umar bin Abdulaziz (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon to the people at Arafat. He said: O people! You have come from far and wide, you have emaciated your animals and worn out your clothes, but the fortunate one is not he whose ride has gone ahead, rather the fortunate one is he whose (deeds) have been accepted.
حضرت یحییٰ بن سعید سے روایت ہے وہ کہتے ہیں مجھے یہ بات پہنچی ہے کہ حضرت عمر بن عبدالعزیز نے مقام عرفہ میں لوگوں کو خطبہ ارشاد فرمایا۔ کہا : اے لوگو ! تم دور اور قریب سے آئے ہو، چنانچہ تم نے جانور بھی لاغر کردیے ہیں اور کپڑے بھی پرانے کرلیے ہیں لیکن خوش بخت وہ آدمی نہیں ہے جس کی سواری آگے نکل گئی بلکہ خوش بخت وہ ہے جس کی قبولیت ہوگئی۔
Hazrat Yahya bin Saeed se riwayat hai woh kehte hain mujhe yeh baat pahunchi hai keh Hazrat Umar bin Abdulaziz ne maqam Arafah mein logon ko khutba irshad farmaya kaha aye logo tum door aur qareeb se aye ho chunache tum ne janwar bhi laghar kar diye hain aur kapde bhi purane kar liye hain lekin khush bakht woh aadmi nahi hai jis ki sawari aage nikal gayi balkeh khush bakht woh hai jis ki qabooliyat ho gayi
أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْأَحْمَرُ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، خَطَبَ النَّاسَ بِعَرَفَةَ فَقَالَ : « يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، إِنَّكُمْ جِئْتُمْ مِنَ الْقَرِيبِ وَالْبَعِيدِ ، فَأَنْضَيْتُمُ الظَّهْرَ ، وَأَخْلَقْتُمُ الثِّيَابَ ، وَلَيْسَ السَّعِيدُ مَنْ سَبَقَتْ دَابَّتُهُ ، أَوْ رَاحِلَتُهُ ، وَلَكِنَّ السَّعِيدَ مَنْ تُقُبِّلَ مِنْهُ »
