Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: That the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The best companions are four, the best Saraya (military unit) is four hundred, the best army is four thousand, and twelve thousand will not be beaten due to being too few. This Hadith is Hasan Gharib, it was not narrated with a chain by anyone important besides Jarir bin Hazim, and this Hadith was only reported from Az-Zuhri, from the Prophet (ﷺ) in Mursal form. Hibban bin 'Ali Al-'Anazi reported it from 'Uqail, from Az-Zuhri, from 'Ubaidullah, from 'Ibn Abbas, from the Prophet (ﷺ), and Al-Laith bin Sa'd reported it from Sa'd, from 'Uqail, from Az-Zuhri, from the Prophet (ﷺ) in the Mursal form. Imam Tirmidhi says: 1- This hadith is Hasan (good) and Gharib (rare), 2- Other than Jarir bin Hazim, no prominent hadith scholar has narrated this hadith with an isnad, Al-Zuhri has narrated it from the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a mursal form, 3- Haban bin Ali 'Anazi has narrated this hadith with the chain: "Uqayl from Al-Zuhri from Ubaydullah bin Abdullah from Ibn Abbas from the Prophet (peace be upon him)," and Al-Layth bin Sa'd has also narrated it in a mursal form with the chain: "Uqayl from Al-Zuhri from the Prophet (peace be upon him)."

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”سب سے بہترین ساتھی وہ ہیں جن کی تعداد چار ہو، اور سب سے بہتر سریہ وہ ہے جس کی تعداد چار سو ہو، اور سب سے بہتر فوج وہ ہے جس کی تعداد چار ہزار ہو اور بارہ ہزار اسلامی فوج قلت تعداد کے باعث مغلوب نہیں ہو گی“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن غریب ہے، ۲- جریر بن حازم کے سوا کسی بڑے محدث سے یہ حدیث مسنداً مروی نہیں، زہری نے اسے نبی اکرم ﷺ سے مرسلاً روایت کیا ہے، ۴- اس حدیث کو حبان بن علی عنزی بسند «عقيل عن الزهري عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله عن ابن عباس عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم» روایت کیا ہے، نیز اسے لیث بن سعد نے بسند «عقيل عن الزهري عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم» مرسلاً روایت کیا ہے۔
“`Abd-al-Llah bin `Abbas radiy-Allahu `anhuma kehte hain ke Rasool-Allah salla-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam ne farmaya: “Sab se behtarin saathi woh hain jin ki tadad chaar ho, aur sab se behtar sariya woh hai jis ki tadad chaar sau ho, aur sab se behtar fauj woh hai jis ki tadad chaar hazar ho aur barah hazar Islami fauj qillat tadad ke baes maghlub nahin ho gi”. Imam Tirmizi kehte hain: 1. yeh hadith hasan gharib hai, 2. Jari'r bin Hazim ke siwa kisi baray muhaddith se yeh hadith musnad-an marwi nahin, Zahri ne isay Nabi-Akram salla-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam se marsalan riwayat kiya hai, 4. is hadith ko Hiban bin Ali `Anzi bisnad “`Aqil `an al-Zahri `an `Ubaid-Allah bin `Abd-Allah `an ibn `Abbas `an an-Nabi salla-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam” riwayat kiya hai, naez isay Laith bin Saad ne bisnad “`Aqil `an al-Zahri `an an-Nabi salla-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam” marsalan riwayat kiya hai.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْأَزْدِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ، وَأَبُو عَمَّارٍ، وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ، قَالُوا: حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: خَيْرُ الصَّحَابَةِ أَرْبَعَةٌ، وَخَيْرُ السَّرَايَا أَرْبَعُ مِائَةٍ، وَخَيْرُ الْجُيُوشِ أَرْبَعَةُ آلَافٍ، وَلَا يُغْلَبُ اثْنَا عَشَرَ أَلْفًا مِنْ قِلَّةٍ ، هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ، لَا يُسْنِدُهُ كَبِيرُ أَحَدٍ غَيْرُ جَرِيرِ بْنِ حَازِمٍ، وَإِنَّمَا رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُرْسَلًا، وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ حِبَّانُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْعَنَزِيُّ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَرَوَاهُ اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُرْسَلًا.
