Amr bin Salamah said that when Makkah was conquered, people started coming to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). When they would return, they would pass by us. My father also went to the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with the message of Islam from our people. When he was about to return, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Put forward for the Imamate the one who has memorized the most Quran amongst you." The people looked around, and they could not find anyone who had memorized more Quran than me. So, despite my young age, they put me forward, and I started leading them in prayer. I had a shawl on my body. When I would bow down or prostrate, it would become short, and my private parts would become exposed. Seeing this, an old woman said to the people, "Cover the private parts of your Imam." So, the people prepared a shirt for me, which made me very happy.

حضرت عمرو بن سلمہ کہتے ہیں کہ جب مکہ مکرمہ فتح ہوگیا تو لوگ نبی ﷺ کے پاس آنے لگے وہ واپسی پر ہمارے پاس سے گزرتے تھے میرے والد صاحب بھی اپنی قوم کے اسلام کا پیغام لے کر بارگاہ نبوت میں حاضر ہوئے تھے وہ واپس آنے لگے تو نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا امامت کے لئے اس شخص کو آگے کرنا جو سب سے زیادہ قرآن پڑھا ہوا ہو لوگوں نے غور کیا تو انہیں مجھ سے زیادہ قرآن پڑھا ہوا کوئی نہ مل سکا چنانچہ انہوں نے نوعمر ہونے کے باوجود مجھ کو ہی آگے کردیا اور میں انہیں نماز پڑھانے لگا میرے جسم پر ایک چادر ہوتی تھی میں جب رکوع یا سجدے میں جاتا تو وہ چھوٹی پڑجاتی اور میرا ستر کھل جاتا یہ دیکھ کر ایک بوڑھی خاتون لوگوں سے کہنے لگی کہ اپنے امام صاحب کا ستر تو چھپاؤ چنانچہ لوگوں نے میرے لئے ایک قمیض تیار کردی جسے پاکر مجھے بہت خوشی ہوئی۔
Hazrat Amr bin Salama kehte hain ki jab Makkah Mukarrama fatah hogaya to log Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ke pass aane lage woh wapsi per humare pass se guzarte thay mere walid sahib bhi apni qaum ke Islam ka paigham lekar bargah e nabuwat mein hazir huye thay woh wapas aane lage to Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya imamat ke liye iss shakhs ko aage karna jo sab se zyada Quran parha hua ho logon ne ghaur kiya to unhen mujh se zyada Quran parha hua koi na mil saka chunanche unhon ne naujawan hone ke bawajood mujhe hi aage kardiya aur main unhen namaz parhane laga mere jism per ek chadar hoti thi main jab ruku ya sajday mein jata to woh chhoti par jati aur mera satar khul jata yeh dekh kar ek boorhi khatoon logon se kehne lagi ke apne imam sahib ka satar to chhupao chunanche logon ne mere liye ek qameez taiyar kardi jisey pakar mujhe bahut khushi hui.
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَيُّوبُ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ سَلِمَةَ ، قَالَ: لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْفَتْحِ، جَعَلَ النَّاسُ يَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْنَا، قَدْ جَاءُوا مِنْ عِنْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَكُنْتُ أَقْرَأُ وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ، فَجَاءَ أَبِي بِإِسْلَامِ قَوْمِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " يَؤُمُّكُمْ أَكْثَرُكُمْ قُرْآنًا"، فَنَظَرُوا، فَكُنْتُ أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا، قَالَ: فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ: غَطُّوا اسْتَ قَارِئِكُمْ، قَالَ: فَاشْتَرَوْا لَهُ بُرْدَةً، قَالَ: فَمَا فَرِحْتُ أَشَدَّ مِنْ فَرَحِي بِذَلِكَ .
