Ma'di bin Sulaiman said that once, Muti' said to his son, Shua'ib bin Muti', "How did I narrate the hadith to you?" Shua'ib replied, "Father! You told me that Sayyidina Dhu'ayb met you in Dhi Khushub and told you that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed Zuhr or Asr - most probably Asr - and ended the prayer after two rak'ahs. Some hasty people, seeing this, thought that the number of rak'ahs had been reduced and left the masjid. Meanwhile, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also stood up, and Sayyidina Abu Bakr and Umar followed him. Dhu'ayb came forward and said, 'O Messenger of Allah! Have the rak'ahs of the prayer been reduced, or have you forgotten?' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'Neither have the rak'ahs been reduced nor have I forgotten.' Then, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned to the two Sheikhs (Abu Bakr and Umar) and said, 'What is Dhu'ayb saying?' They replied, 'O Messenger of Allah! He is telling the truth.' So, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) returned, and the people also returned, and he led two more rak'ahs and ended the prayer with salam, then performed the sajdah sahw.

معدی بن سلیمان کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ مطیر نے اپنے بیٹے شعیث بن مطیر سے کہا کہ میں نے تمہیں وہ روایت کیسے بتائی تھی؟ شعیث نے جواب دیا کہ ابا جان! آپ نے مجھے بتایا تھا کہ مقام ذی خشب میں سیدنا ذوالیدین آپ سے ملے تھے، انہوں نے آپ کو بتایا تھا کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ نے ظہر یا عصر غالباً عصر کی نماز پڑھائی اور دو رکعتوں پر ہی سلام پھیر دیا، جلد باز قسم کے لوگ یہ دیکھ کر نماز کی رکعتیں کم ہو گئیں کہتے ہوئے مسجد سے نکل گئے۔ ادھر نبی ﷺ بھی کھڑے ہوئے اور سیدنا ابوبکر وعمر بھی پیچھے پیچھے چلے کہ ذوالیدین سامنے سے آ گئے اور کہنے لگے یا رسول اللہ!! نماز کی رکعتیں کم ہو گئی ہیں یا آپ بھول گئے ہیں؟ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: نماز کی رکعتیں کم ہوئی ہیں اور نہ ہی میں بھولا ہوں، پھر نبی ﷺ حضرات شیخین کی طرف متوجہ ہوئے اور فرمایا کہ ذوالیدین کیا کہہ رہے ہیں؟ دونوں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ!! یہ سچ کہہ رہے ہیں، چنانچہ نبی ﷺ بھی واپس آ گئے اور لوگ بھی واپس آ گئے اور دو رکعتیں مزید پڑھائیں اور سلام پھیر کر سجدہ سہو کر لیا۔
Madi bin Sulaiman kehte hain ki ek martaba Mutair ne apne bete Shuaib bin Mutair se kaha ki maine tumhein wo riwayat kaise batai thi? Shuaib ne jawab diya ki abba jaan! Aap ne mujhe bataya tha ki maqam Zi Khushb mein Sayyiduna Zulqarnain aap se mile the, unhon ne aap ko bataya tha ki ek martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Zuhr ya Asr ghaaliban Asr ki namaz padhai aur do rakaton par hi salam phair diya, jald baaz qisam ke log ye dekh kar namaz ki rakaten kam ho gayin kehte huye masjid se nikal gaye. Udhar Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) bhi khare huye aur Sayyiduna Abubakar o Umar bhi peeche peeche chale gaye ki Zulqarnain samne se aa gaye aur kehne lage Ya Rasul Allah!! Namaz ki rakaten kam ho gayin hain ya aap bhool gaye hain? Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Namaz ki rakaten kam hui hain aur na hi main bhoola hun, phir Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) hazrat Shaikhain ki taraf mutawajjah huye aur farmaya ki Zulqarnain kya keh rahe hain? Donon ne arz kiya: Ya Rasul Allah!! Ye sach keh rahe hain, chunanche Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) bhi wapas aa gaye aur log bhi wapas aa gaye aur do rakaten mazeed padhain aur salam phair kar sajda sahw kar liya.
قال عَبْد اللَّهِ بن أحمد: حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَعْدِيُّ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْثُ بْنُ مُطَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ مُطَيْرٍ ، ومُطَيْرٌ حَاضِرٌ يُصَدِّقُهُ مَقَالَته: كَيْفَ كُنْتُ أَخْبَرْتُكَ؟، قَالَ: يَا أَبَتَاهُ، أَخْبَرْتَنِي أَنَّكَ لَقِيَكَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ بِذِي خُشُبٍ، فَأَخْبَرَكَ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى بِهِمْ إِحْدَى صَلَاتَيْ الْعَشِيِّ وَهِيَ الْعَصْرُ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَخَرَجَ سَرَعَانُ النَّاسِ وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ: أَقَصُرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ؟ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاتَّبَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا وَهُمَا مُبْتَدَّيْه، فَلَحِقَهُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَقَصُرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ؟، فَقَالَ:" مَا قَصُرَتْ الصَّلاَة، وَلَا نَسِيتُ"، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، فَقَالَ:" مَا يَقُولُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ؟"، فَقَالَا: صَدَقَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، فَرَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَثَابَ النَّاسُ، فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْ السَّهْوِ، قَالَ أَبُو سُلَيْمَانَ حَدَّثْتُ سِتَّ سِنِينَ، أَوْ سَبْعَ سِنِينَ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ، وَشَكَكْتُ فِيهِ، وَهُوَ أَكْثَرُ حِفْظِي.
