The Musnad of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him)
مسنَد اَبِی هرَیرَةَ رَضِیَ اللَّه عَنه
Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 10151
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “By Him in Whose hand is my soul, a person who gathers a bundle of firewood, ties it with a rope, carries it on his back from the forest (and then sells it in the market to earn his living) is better than someone who begs from people, whether the one being asked gives to him or not. This is because the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and the first ones you should give charity to are those under your care.”

رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا اس ذات کی قسم جس کے ہاتھ میں میری جان ہے اگر کوئی شخص رسی سے لکڑیوں کا بوجھ باندھ کر اپنی پیٹھ پر جنگل سے اٹھا لائے (پھر انہیں بازار میں بیچ کر اپنا رزق حاصل کرے) تو وہ اس شخص سے بہتر ہے جو کسی کے پاس آ کر سوال کرے۔ پھر جس سے سوال کیا گیا ہے وہ اسے دے یا نہ دے۔ اس کی وجہ یہ ہے کہ اوپر والا ہاتھ نیچے والے ہاتھ سے بہتر ہے، اور آپ کے (صدقہ) کے حق دار وہ پہلے ہیں جن کی آپ کفالت کرتے ہیں
Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya is zaat ki qasam jis ke hath mein meri jaan hai agar koi shakhs rassi se lakdion ka bojh bandh kar apni peeth par jungle se utha laye (phir unhen bazaar mein bech kar apna rizq hasil kare) to wo us shakhs se behtar hai jo kisi ke pass aa kar sawal kare phir jis se sawal kiya gaya hai wo use de ya na de us ki waja ye hai ke upar wala hath neeche wale hath se behtar hai aur aap ke (sadqa) ke haqdaar wo pehle hain jin ki aap kefalat karte hain
وَاللَّهِ لَأَنْ يَغْدُوَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَيَحْتَطِبَ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ، فَيَبِيعَهُ، وَيَسْتَغْنِيَ بِهِ، وَيَتَصَدَّقَ مِنْهُ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ رَجُلًا فَيَسْأَلَهُ، يُؤْتِيهِ أَوْ يَمْنَعُهُ، وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ الْيَدَ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ .
