Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 1232
Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said that Witr is not definitively proven from the Holy Quran like the obligatory prayers, but its obligation is proven from the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, therefore, O people of the Quran! Pray Witr.

سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ فرماتے ہیں کہ وتر فرض نماز کی طرح قرآن کریم سے حتمی ثبوت نہیں رکھتے، لیکن ان کا وجوب نبی ﷺ کی سنت سے ثابت ہے، اس لئے اہل قرآن! وتر پڑھا کرو۔
Sayyidna Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) farmate hain ki witr farz namaz ki tarah Quran Kareem se hatmi saboot nahi rakhte, lekin in ka wujoob Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki sunnat se sabit hai, is liye ahl Quran! witr parha karo.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ النَّاقِدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْخُرَيْبِيُّ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ:" إِنَّ الْوَتْرَ لَيْسَ بِحَتْمٍ، وَلَكِنَّهُ سُنَّةٌ سَنَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَوْتِرُوا يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ".
