Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 1234
Asim bin Damrah said that once a person asked Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, how did the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, offer his voluntary prayers? He replied that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, would offer sixteen rak'ahs of voluntary prayers throughout the night.

عاصم بن ضمرہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ کسی شخص نے سیدنا علی رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا کہ نبی ﷺ کس طرح نوافل پڑھتے تھے؟ انہوں نے فرمایا کہ پوری رات میں نبی ﷺ کے نوافل کی سولہ رکعتیں ہوتی تھیں۔
Asim bin Damra kahte hain ki ek martaba kisi shakhs ne Sayyidna Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se pucha ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) kis tarah nawafil parhte the? Unhon ne farmaya ki puri raat mein Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke nawafil ki solah rakatain hoti theen.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ ، قَالَ: سُئِلَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: كَانَ" يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ سِتَّ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً".
