Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 14692
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the pure wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) requested an increase in their allowance. At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not have anything, so he was unable to fulfill their request. Sayyiduna Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived at the house of Prophethood and sought permission to enter. However, permission was not granted due to the presence of numerous people at the door. After a short while, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also arrived and requested permission, but he too was not allowed inside. A little later, both of them were granted permission and entered the house. At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was present, surrounded by his wives. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) remarked, "O Messenger of Allah! If you were to see your wife, Zainab bint Zaid, demanding an allowance from me right now, I would wring her neck!" Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) laughed so heartily that his blessed teeth became visible. Then, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "By the One in whose hands is my soul, these women you see before me are indeed asking me for an allowance." Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) got up and moved towards Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) as if to hit her, while Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) moved towards Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), both of them saying, "You ask the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for something when he doesn't have it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stopped both of them, and all the pure wives declared, "By Allah, from this day forward, we will never ask the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for anything that he does not possess." Following this incident, Allah revealed the verse of "choice" (Ayat at-Takhyir).

سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ کی ازواج مطہرات نے نفقہ میں اضافے کی درخواست کی اس وقت نبی ﷺ کے پاس کچھ نہیں تھا لہذا نبی ﷺ ایسا نہ کر سکے سیدنا صدیق اکبر کاشانہ نبوت پر حاضر ہوئے اندر جانے کی اجازت چاہی چونکہ کافی سارے لوگ دروازے پر موجود تھے اس لئے اجازت نہ مل سکی تھوڑی دیر بعد سیدنا عمر نے بھی آ کر اجازت چاہی لیکن انہیں بھی اجازت نہ مل سکی تھوڑی دیر بعد دونوں حضرات کو اجازت مل گئی اور وہ گھر میں داخل ہو گئے اس وقت نبی ﷺ تشریف فرما تھے اور اردگرد ازواج مطہرات تھیں سیدنا عمر کہنے لگے کہ یا رسول اللہ! اگر آپ بنت زید (اپنی بیوی) ابھی مجھ سے نفقہ کا سوال کرتے ہوئے دیکھیں تو میں اس کی گردن دبادوں گا اس پر نبی ﷺ اتنا ہنسے کہ آپ کے دندان مبارک ظاہر ہو گئے۔ پھر نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: اس ذات کی قسم جس کے دست قدرت میں میری جان ہے یہ خواتین جنہیں تم میرے پاس دیکھ رہے ہو یہ مجھ سے نفقہ ہی کا سوال کر رہی ہیں۔ یہ سن کر سیدنا صدیق اکبر اٹھ کر سیدنا عائشہ کو مارنے کے لئے بڑھے اور سیدنا عمر حفصہ کی طرف بڑھے اور دونوں کہنے لگے کہ تم نبی ﷺ سے اس چیز کا سوال کر تی ہو جو ان کے پاس نہیں ہے نبی ﷺ نے ان دونوں کو روکا اور تمام ازواج مطہرات کہنے لگیں کہ واللہ آج کے بعد ہم نبی ﷺ سے کسی ایسی چیز کا سوال نہیں کر یں گے جو نبی ﷺ کے پاس نہ ہو۔ اس کے بعد اللہ نے آیت تخییر نازل فرمائی۔

حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ أَزْوَاجَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَأَلْنَهُ النَّفَقَةَ، فَلَمْ يُوَافِقْ عِنْدَهُ شَيْءٌ، حَتَّى أَحْجَزْنَهُ، فَأَتَاهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَاسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَيْهِ، فَلَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لَهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ عُمَرُ، فَاسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَيْهِ، فَلَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لَهُ، ثُمَّ اسْتَأْذَنَا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَأُذِنَ لَهُمَا، وَوَجَدَاهُ بَيْنَهُنَّ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّ ابْنَةَ زَيْدٍ سَأَلَتْنِي النَّفَقَةَ فَوَجَأْتُهَا، أَوْ نَحْوَ ذَلِكَ، وَأَرَادَ بِذَلِكَ أَنْ يُضْحِكَهُ، فَضَحِكَ حَتَّى بَدَتْ نَوَاجِذُهُ، وَقَالَ:" وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ، مَا حَبَسَنِي غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ"، فَقَامَا إِلَى ابْنَتَيْهِمَا، فَأَخَذَا بِأَيْدِيهِمَا، فَقَالَا: أَتَسْأَلَانِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا لَيْسَ عِنْدَهُ؟! فَنَهَاهُمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْهُمَا، فَقَالَتَا: لَا نَعُدْ، فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ نَزَلَ التَّخْيِيرُ.
