Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 1514
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Uthman ibn Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) wished to abstain from worldly pleasures, but the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not permit him to do so. If the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had permitted him to do so, we would have at least castrated ourselves.

سیدنا سعد بن ابی وقاص رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ سیدنا عثمان بن مظعون رضی اللہ عنہ نے گوشہ نشینی اختیار کرنا چاہی لیکن نبی ﷺ نے انہیں اس کی اجازت نہ دی، اگر نبی ﷺ انہیں اس چیز کی اجازت دے دیتے تو ہم بھی کم از کم اپنے آپ کو خصی کر لیتے۔
Sayyidna Saad bin Abi Waqas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki Sayyidna Usman bin Mazoon (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne gosha nashini ikhtiyar karna chahi lekin Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unhen is ki ijazat na di, agar Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) unhen is cheez ki ijazat de dete to hum bhi kam az kam apne aap ko khasi kar lete.
حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، أَنْبَأَنَا لَيْثٌ ، حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ , أَخْبَرَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ , أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَعْدَ بْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ، قَالَ: أَرَادَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ أَنْ يَتَبَتَّلَ، فَنَهَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَوْ أَجَازَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، لَاخْتَصَيْنَا.
