Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 15772
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would return from a journey, he would first go to the mosque. There, he would pray two rak'ahs (units of prayer), and after finishing the prayer with salam (greetings of peace), he would sit at his place of prayer. People would come and greet the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

سیدنا کعب بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ جب کسی سفر سے واپس آتے تو سب سے پہلے مسجد میں تشریف لے جاتے وہاں دو رکعتیں پڑھتے اور سلام پھیر کر اپنی جائے نماز پر ہی بیٹھ جاتے اور لوگ آ کر نبی ﷺ کو سلام کرتے تھے۔

حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، وَكَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَحَدُ الثَّلَاثَةِ الَّذِينَ تِيبَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَنَّ كَعْبَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا" قَدِمَ مِنْ سَفَرٍ بَدَأَ بِالْمَسْجِدِ، فَسَبَّحَ فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ، فَجَلَسَ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ، فَيَأْتِيهِ النَّاسُ، فَيُسَلِّمُونَ عَلَيْهِ".
