Hadith of Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him)
حَدِیث معَاوِیَةَ بنِ اَبِی سفیَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ
Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 16928
And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, "The people will always be followers of Quraysh in this matter (of leadership). The best of them in the pre-Islamic period are the best of them in Islam, as long as they acquire understanding (of religion). By Allah, if Quraysh were not to become arrogant, I would tell them what status their best people have with Allah."

اور نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”اس معاملے (حکومت) میں لوگ قریش کے تابع ہیں، زمانہ جاہلیت میں ان میں سے جو بہترین لوگ تھے وہ زمانہ اسلام میں بھی بہترین ہیں جبکہ وہ فقاہت حاصل کر لیں، بخدا! اگر قریش فخر میں مبتلا نہ ہو جاتے تو میں انہیں بتا دیتا کہ ان کے بہترین لوگوں کا اللہ کے یہاں کیا مقام ہے؟“
Aur Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: “Is mamle (hukumat) mein log Quresh ke taabe hain, zamana jahiliyat mein in mein se jo behtarin log thay woh zamana Islam mein bhi behtarin hain jabkay woh fiqahat hasil kar lein, bukhuda! Agar Quresh fakhr mein mubtila na ho jatay to main unhein bata deta kay un ke behtarin logon ka Allah ke yahan kya maqam hai?”.
قَالَ: قَالَ: وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " النَّاسُ تَبَعٌ لِقُرَيْشٍ فِي هَذَا الْأَمْرِ، خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا، وَاللَّهِ لَوْلَا أَنْ تَبْطَرَ قُرَيْشٌ لَأَخْبَرْتُهَا مَا لِخِيَارِهَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
