The Hadith of al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 1788
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to know of some things being said by the people. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ascended the pulpit and, addressing the people, asked, "Who am I?" The people replied, "You are the Messenger of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "I am Muhammad, son of Abdullah, son of Abdul-Muttalib. Allah created the creation and placed me among the best of them. Then Allah divided them into two groups and placed me in the best group. Then Allah created the tribes and placed me in the best tribe. Then Allah designated the places of residence and placed me in the best place of residence. Therefore, I am the best among you in terms of residence and the best among you in terms of myself."

سیدنا عباس رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ کو لوگوں کی طرف سے کچھ باتیں معلوم ہوئیں، آپ ﷺ منبر پر رونق افروز ہوئے اور لوگوں سے مخاطب ہو کر پوچھا: ”میں کون ہوں؟“ لوگوں نے کہا کہ آپ اللہ کے پیغمبر ہیں، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”میں محمد بن عبداللہ بن عبدالمطلب ہوں، اللہ نے مخلوقات کو پیدا کیا اور مجھے ان میں سب سے بہتر مخلوق میں رکھا، پھر اللہ نے انہیں دو گروہوں میں تقسیم کر دیا اور مجھے بہترین گروہ میں رکھا، پھر اللہ نے قبائل کو پیدا کیا اور مجھے بہترین قبیلہ میں رکھا، پھر اللہ نے رہائشیں مقرر کیں اور مجھے سب سے بہترین رہائش میں رکھا، اس لئے میں رہائش کے اعتبار سے بھی تم سب سے بہتر ہوں اور اپنی ذات کے اعتبار سے بھی تم سب سے بہتر ہوں۔“
Sayyiduna Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki ek martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko logon ki taraf se kuch baaten maloom huin, Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) mimbar par ronak afroz hue aur logon se mukhatib ho kar pucha: "Main kaun hun?" Logon ne kaha ki aap Allah ke paighambar hain, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: "Main Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul Muttalib hun, Allah ne makhlooqat ko paida kiya aur mujhe un mein sab se behtar makhlooq mein rakha, phir Allah ne unhen do girohon mein taqseem kar diya aur mujhe behtarin giroh mein rakha, phir Allah ne qabail ko paida kiya aur mujhe behtarin qabila mein rakha, phir Allah ne rahaishen muqarrar kin aur mujhe sab se behtarin rahaish mein rakha, is liye main rahaish ke aitbaar se bhi tum sab se behtar hun aur apni zaat ke aitbaar se bhi tum sab se behtar hun."
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ ، عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ أَبِي وَدَاعَةَ , قَالَ: قَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ : بَلَغَهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْضُ مَا يَقُولُ النَّاسُ، قَالَ: فَصَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ، فَقَالَ:" مَنْ أَنَا"، قَالُوا: أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، فَقَالَ:" أَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَلَقَ الْخَلْقَ فَجَعَلَنِي فِي خَيْرِ خَلْقِهِ، وَجَعَلَهُمْ فِرْقَتَيْنِ، فَجَعَلَنِي فِي خَيْرِ فِرْقَةٍ، وَخَلَقَ الْقَبَائِلَ، فَجَعَلَنِي فِي خَيْرِ قَبِيلَةٍ، وَجَعَلَهُمْ بُيُوتًا، فَجَعَلَنِي فِي خَيْرِهِمْ بَيْتًا، فَأَنَا خَيْرُكُمْ بَيْتًا، وَخَيْرُكُمْ نَفْسًا".
