Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 18243
It is narrated by Mughirah Radi Allahu Anhu that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would stand in prayer for so long that his blessed feet would swell. People would say, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Allah Almighty has forgiven all your past and future sins, then why so much effort?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would say, "Should I not be a thankful servant?"

حضرت مغیرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ اتنی دیرقیام فرماتے کہ آپ کے مبارک قدم سوج جاتے لوگ کہتے یا رسول اللہ ﷺ ! اللہ تعالیٰ نے تو آپ کے اگلے پچھلے سارے گناہ معاف فرمادئیے ہیں پھر اتنی محنت؟ نبی کریم ﷺ فرماتے کیا میں شکرگذار بندہ نہ بنوں؟
Hazrat Mugheera Razi Allaho Anho Se Marvi Hai Ke Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam Itni Der Qayam Farmaty Ke Aap Ke Mubarak Qadam Sooj Jaty Log Kehty Ya Rasool Allah Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam Allah Taala Ne To Aap Ke Agly Pichly Sary Gunah Maaf Farmadye Hain Phir Itni Mehnat Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam Farmaty Kya Main Shukar Guzar Banda Na Banoon
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ يَقُولُ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَرِمَ قَدَمَاهُ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: أَلَيْسَ قَدْ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ؟! قَالَ: " أَفَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا" .
