From the hadith of Samurah ibn Jundub, from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)
وَمِنْ حَدِيثِ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 20133
And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, "Every child is held in pledge for his 'Aqeeqah, so sacrifice for him on the seventh day, and on that day he should be named and his head shaved."
Grade: Sahih
اور نبی ﷺ نے ارشاد فرمایا ہر لڑکا اپنے عقیقہ کے عوض گروی لکھا ہوا ہے، لہذا اس کی طرف سے ساتویں دن قربانی کیا کرو، اسی دن اس کا نام رکھا جائے اور سر کے بال مونڈے جائیں۔
aur nabi sahih allahu alihay wasallam ne irshad farmaya har larha apne aqiqah ke awaz girovi likha huwa hai lihaza us ki taraf se saatwein din qurbani kiya karo isi din us ka naam rakha jaye aur sar ke baal mundaye jayen
قَالَ: قَالَ: وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّهُ مَعَ الْغُلَامِ عَقِيقَتُهُ، تُذْبَحُ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ سَابِعِهِ، وَيُسَمَّى وَيُحْلَقُ رَأْسُهُ" .
