The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2077
Abu'l-Tufail reported that I said to Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): "Your people think that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ran between Safa and Marwa (during Hajj), and that it is Sunnah (recommended practice)." He replied: "Half of that is true, and half is false. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did run, but it is not Sunnah. The reason he ran was that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived with his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), the polytheists were watching them from Mount Qu'ayquan. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) found out that they were talking amongst themselves about the weakness of the Muslims. So, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered them to run so that they could show the polytheists that they were not facing any hardship."

ابوالطفیل کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے کہا کہ آپ کی قوم یہ سمجھتی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے خانہ کعبہ کے طواف کے دوران رمل کیا ہے اور یہ سنت ہے، فرمایا: اس میں آدھا سچ ہے اور آدھا جھوٹ، نبی ﷺ نے رمل تو فرمایا ہے لیکن یہ سنت نہیں ہے اور رمل کرنے کی وجہ یہ تھی کہ نبی ﷺ جب اپنے صحابہ رضی اللہ عنہم کے ساتھ تشریف لائے تو مشرکین جبل قعیقعان نامی پہاڑ پر سے انہیں دیکھ رہے تھے، نبی ﷺ کو پتہ چلا کہ یہ لوگ آپس میں مسلمانوں کے کمزور ہونے کی باتیں کر رہے ہیں، اس پر نبی ﷺ نے انہیں رمل کرنے کا حکم دیا تاکہ مشرکین کو دکھا سکیں کہ انہیں کسی پریشانی کا سامنا نہیں ہے۔
Abu alt fail kehte hain keh maine sayyidna ibn abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se kaha keh aap ki qaum yeh samjhti hai keh nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne khana kaba ke tawaf ke dauran raml kiya hai aur yeh sunnat hai farmaya is mein aadha sach hai aur aadha jhoot nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne raml to farmaya hai lekin yeh sunnat nahi hai aur raml karne ki waja yeh thi keh nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) jab apne sahaba (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke sath tashreef laye to mushrikeen jabal quae qan nami pahar par se unhen dekh rahe the nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko pata chala keh yeh log aapas mein musalmanon ke kamzor hone ki baaten kar rahe hain is par nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unhen raml karne ka hukum diya takah mushrikon ko dikha saken keh unhen kisi pareshani ka samna nahi hai
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا فِطْرٌ ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ وَاثِلَةَ ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : إِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ رَمَلَ وَأَنَّهَا سُنَّةٌ، قَالَ: صَدَقَ قَوْمِي وَكَذَبُوا،" قَدْ رَمَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَيْسَتْ بِسُنَّةٍ، وَلَكِنَّهُ قَدِمَ وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَى جَبَلِ قُعَيْقِعَانَ، فَتَحَدَّثُوا أَنَّ بِهِ وَبِأَصْحَابِهِ هَزْلًا وَجَهْدًا وَشِدَّةً، فَأَمَرَ بِهِمْ فَرَمَلُوا بِالْبَيْتِ لِيُرِيَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ لَمْ يُصِبْهُمْ جَهْدٌ".
