Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 21010
Narrated by Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), we used to attend the gatherings of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to remain silent for most of the time and rarely laughed. However, in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the Companions would recite poetry and laugh while narrating incidents from the pre-Islamic era. But the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would only smile.

حضرت جابر بن سمرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ہم لوگ نبی ﷺ کی مجلسوں میں شریک ہوتے تھے نبی ﷺ زیادہ وقت خاموش رہتے تھے اور کم ہنستے تھے البتہ نبی ﷺ کی موجودگی میں صحابہ اشعار بھی کہہ لیا کرتے تھے اور زمانہ جاہلیت کے واقعات ذکر کر کے ہنستے تھے لیکن نبی ﷺ تبسم فرماتے تھے۔
Hazrat Jabir bin Samrah RA se marvi hai ki hum log Nabi SAW ki majlison mein sharik hote thay Nabi SAW zyada waqt khamosh rehte thay aur kam hanste thay albatta Nabi SAW ki mojoodgi mein sahaba ashaar bhi keh liya karte thay aur zamanah jahiliyat ke waqiyat zikar kar ke hanste thay lekin Nabi SAW tabassum farmate thay.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ: كُنَّا نَجْلِسُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَكَانُوا يَتَنَاشَدُونَ الْأَشْعَارَ وَيَتَذَاكَرُونَ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ،" وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَاكِتٌ، فَرُبَّمَا تَبَسَّمَ"، أَوْ قَالَ: كُنَّا نَتَنَاشَدُ الْأَشْعَارَ، وَنَذْكُرُ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ،" فَرُبَّمَا تَبَسَّمَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" .
