The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2238
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once I and some young men from Quraysh visited Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). We asked him whether the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to recite in Zuhr and Asr prayers. He said, "No." We asked, "Perhaps he would recite in a low voice?" He said, "Be quiet! That is even worse. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was an obedient slave of Allah! Whatever message he was sent with, he delivered it. He did not tell us anything in particular, except for three things: He specifically commanded us to perform ablution thoroughly, not to eat charity, and not to breed donkeys with horses.”

سیدنا عبداللہ بن عبیداللہ رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ میں اور قریش کے کچھ نوجوان سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کے پاس حاضر ہوئے اور ان سے پوچھا کہ کیا نبی ﷺ ظہر اور عصر میں قراءت فرماتے تھے؟ انہوں نے فرمایا: نہیں، ہم نے پوچھا کہ شاید آہسۃ آواز میں قرأت فرما لیتے ہوں؟ انہوں نے فرمایا: خاموش! یہ تو اور بھی زیادہ برا ہے، رسول اللہ ﷺ ایک عبد مامور تھے، واللہ! انہیں جو پیغام دے کر بھیجا گیا تھا، انہوں نے وہ پہنچا دیا، اور لوگوں کو چھوڑ کر خصوصیت کے ساتھ انہوں نے ہمیں کوئی بات نہیں بتائی، سوائے تین چیزوں کے، ایک تو نبی ﷺ نے ہمیں خصوصیت کے ساتھ وضو مکمل کرنے کا حکم دیا، دوسرا یہ کہ ہم صدقہ نہ کھائیں، اور تیسرا یہ کہ ہم کسی گدھے کو گھوڑی پر نہ کدوائیں۔
Sayyidna Abdullah bin Ubaidullah ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki ek martaba main aur Quresh ke kuch naujawan Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ke paas hazir hue aur un se pucha ki kya Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) Zuhr aur Asr mein qirat farmate the? Unhon ne farmaya: Nahin, hum ne pucha ki shayad aahistah aawaz mein qirat farma lete hon? Unhon ne farmaya: Khamosh! Yeh to aur bhi ziyadah bura hai, Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ek Abd Mamoor the, Wallahi! Unhen jo paigham de kar bheja gaya tha, unhon ne woh pahuncha diya, aur logon ko chhod kar khususiyat ke sath unhon ne hamen koi baat nahin batai, siwaye teen cheezon ke, ek to Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne hamen khususiyat ke sath wuzu mukammal karne ka hukm diya, dusra yeh ki hum sadqah na khayen, aur teesra yeh ki hum kisi gadhe ko ghodi par na chadhwayen.
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ سَالِمٍ أَبُو جَهْضَمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَفِتْيَةٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: فَسَأَلُوهُ: هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ؟ قَالَ:" لَا" , قَالَ: فَقَالُوا: فَلَعَلَّهُ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي نَفْسِهِ! قَالَ:" خَمْشًا، هَذِهِ شَرٌّ، إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ عَبْدًا مَأْمُورًا، بَلَّغَ مَا أُرْسِلَ بِهِ، وَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَخُصَّنَا دُونَ النَّاسِ إِلَّا بِثَلَاثٍ أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُسْبِغَ الْوُضُوءَ، وَلَا نَأْكُلَ الصَّدَقَةَ، وَلَا نُنْزِيَ حِمَارًا عَلَى فَرَسٍ".
