The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2304
Narrated by Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to us in a sermon, "O people! Hajj has been made obligatory upon you.” Hearing this, Aqra' bin Habis stood up and said, “O Messenger of Allah! Is Hajj obligatory every year?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “If I had said yes, then it would have become obligatory on you to perform Hajj every year, but if that had happened, you would not have been able to act upon it. Hajj is obligatory once in a lifetime, and anything more than that will be a voluntary Hajj.”

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ نے ہمیں خطبہ دیتے ہوئے فرمایا کہ ”لوگو! تم پر حج فرض کر دیا گیا ہے“، یہ سن کر اقرع بن حابس کھڑے ہو گئے اور کہنے لگے: یا رسول اللہ! کیا ہر سال حج کرنا فرض ہے؟ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”اگر میں ہاں کہہ دیتا تو تم پر ہر سال حج کرنا فرض ہو جاتا، لیکن اگر ایسا ہو جاتا تو تم اس پر عمل نہ کر سکتے، ساری زندگی میں حج ایک مرتبہ فرض ہے، اس سے زائد جو ہو گا وہ نفلی حج ہو گا۔“
Saydna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ke ek martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne humein khutba dete huye farmaya ke logon tum par Hajj farz kar diya gaya hai ye sun kar Aqra bin Habis khde ho gaye aur kehne lage Ya Rasulullah kya har saal Hajj karna farz hai Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya agar main haan keh deta to tum par har saal Hajj karna farz ho jata lekin agar aisa ho jata to tum is par amal na kar sakte sari zindagi main Hajj ek martaba farz hai is se zayed jo ho ga wo nafli Hajj ho ga
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ أَبِي سِنَانٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ: خطبنا يعني رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ:" يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمْ الْحَجُّ" , قَالَ: فَقَامَ الْأَقْرَعُ بْنُ حَابِسٍ، فَقَالَ: أفِي كُلِّ عَامٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ:" لَوْ قُلْتُهَا لَوَجَبَتْ، وَلَوْ وَجَبَتْ لَمْ تَعْمَلُوا بِهَا، أَوْ لَمْ تَسْتَطِيعُوا أَنْ تَعْمَلُوا بِهَا الحج مرة، فَمَنْ زَادَ فَهُوَ تَطَوُّعٌ".
