Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 23759
Abdul Hamid bin Salmah narrates that his grandfather accepted Islam during the lifetime of the Prophet, but his grandmother did not. They had a son together. Both, the grandfather and grandmother, presented their case before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regarding the custody of their son. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "If you both agree, then give your son the choice (to go with whomever he wants)." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made the father sit in one corner and the mother in the other, and gave the child the choice. The child started walking towards his mother, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed, "O Allah! Guide this child." And so, the child turned back and went towards his father.

عبدالحمید بن سلمہ کہتے ہیں کہ ان کے دادا دور نبوت ہی میں مسلمان ہوگئے تھے لیکن ان کی دادی نے اسلام قبول نہیں کیا تھا دادا کا دادی سے ایک بیٹا تھا وہ دونوں اس کا مقدمہ لے کر نبی کریم ﷺ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوئے نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا تم دونوں اگر مناسب سمجھو تو اپنے بیٹے کو اختیار دے دو (وہ جس کے پاس جانا چاہے چلاجائے) پھر نبی کریم ﷺ نے ایک کونے میں باپ کو بٹھایا اور دوسرے کونے میں ماں کو اور بچے کو اختیار دے دیا وہ بچہ ماں کی طرف چلنے لگا تو نبی کریم ﷺ نے دعا کی کہ اے اللہ! اس بچے کو ہدایت عطا فرما چناچہ وہ اپنے باپ کی طرف لوٹ آیا۔
Abdulhamid bin Salma kehte hain ki unke dada dor e nabuat hi mein musalman hogaye thay lekin unki dadi ne Islam qubool nahin kiya tha dada ka dadi se aik beta tha woh donon iska muqaddama lekar Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki khidmat mein hazir huye Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya tum donon agar munasib samjho to apne bete ko ikhtiyar de do woh jis ke pass jana chahe chala jaye phir Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne aik kone mein baap ko bithaya aur dusre kone mein maa ko aur bache ko ikhtiyar de diya woh bacha maa ki taraf chalne laga to Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne dua ki ke aye Allah is bache ko hidayat ata farma chunancha woh apne baap ki taraf laut aaya.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ الْبَتِّيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، أَنَّ جَدَّهُ أَسْلَمَ وَأَبَتْ امْرَأَتُهُ أَنْ تُسْلِمَ، فَجَاءَ بِابْنٍ لَهُ صَغِيرٍ لَمْ يَبْلُغْ، قَالَ: فَأَجْلَسَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْأَبَ هَاهُنَا، وَالْأُمَّ هَاهُنَا، وَقَالَ: " اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِهِ" فَذَهَبَ إِلَى أَبِيهِ .
