Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 25195
It is narrated on the authority of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would fast so continuously that we would think that he would always keep fasting, and sometimes he would break his fast so often that we would think that he would always break his fast. And I have never seen the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fasting in a month more than in Sha'ban. He used to fast almost the whole of Sha'ban, except for a few days.

حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے مروی ہے کہ بعض اوقات نبی ﷺ اتنے روزے رکھتے تھے کہ ہم کہتے تھے اب نبی ﷺ روزے رکھتے ہی رہیں گے اور بعض اوقات اتنے ناغے کرتے کہ ہم کہتے تھے اب نبی ﷺ ناغے ہی کرتے رہیں گے اور میں نے جس کثرت کے ساتھ نبی ﷺ کو شعبان میں روزے رکھتے ہوئے دیکھا ہے، کسی اور مہینے میں نہیں دیکھا ہے، نبی ﷺ اس کے صرف چند دن کو چھوڑ کر تقریبا پورا مہینہ ہی روزہ رکھتے تھے۔
Hazrat Aisha Radi Allaho Anha se marvi hai ki baaz auqat Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam itne rozy rakhte thy ke hum kehty thy ab Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam rozy rakhte hi rahengy aur baaz auqat itne naghey karte ke hum kehty thy ab Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam naghey hi karte rahengy aur maine jis kasrat ke sath Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ko Shaban mein rozy rakhte hue dekha hai kisi aur mahine mein nahi dekha hai Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam is ke sirf chand din ko chhor kar taqreeban poora mahina hi rozy rakhte thy.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَالِمٌ أَبُو النَّضْرِ مَوْلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَة َقَالَتْ:" كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ: لَا يُفْطِرُ، وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ: لَا يَصُومُ، وَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اسْتَكْمَلَ صِيَامَ شَهْرٍ قَطُّ إِلَّا رَمَضَانَ، وَمَا رَأَيْتُهُ فِي شَهْرٍ قَطُّ أَكْثَرَ مِنْهُ صِيَامًا فِي شَعْبَانَ" .
