Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 25362
It is narrated on the authority of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) left his house in the middle of the night and went to the mosque and started praying. People gathered and they also joined the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in prayer. When it was morning, people mentioned to each other that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had left his house at midnight and prayed in the mosque. So, the next night, even more people gathered than before. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), as before, came out and started praying, and the people joined him. The same thing happened on the third day. On the fourth day, so many people gathered that there was no room for anyone else in the mosque, but on that day, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed in the house and did not come out. I even heard some people saying "Prayer, prayer", but the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not come out. Then, when the Fajr prayer was offered, he turned to the people after the salam, bore witness to the Oneness of Allah and my Prophethood, and after saying "Ama Ba'd", said: "Your state today is not hidden from me. But I was afraid that this prayer might become obligatory on you, and then you would not be able to bear it."

حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ درمیان رات میں گھر سے نکلے اور مسجد میں جا کر نماز پڑھنے لگے، لوگ جمع ہوئے اور وہ بھی نبی ﷺ کی نماز میں شریک ہوگئے، صبح ہوئی تو لوگوں نے ایک دوسرے سے اس بات کا تذکرہ کیا کہ نبی ﷺ نصف رات کو گھر سے نکلے تھے اور انہوں نے مسجد میں نماز پڑھی تھی، چنانچہ اگلی رات کو پہلے سے زیادہ تعداد میں لوگ جمع ہوگئے، نبی ﷺ حسب سابق باہر تشریف لائے اور نماز پڑھنے لگے، لوگ بھی ان کے ساتھ شریک ہوگئے، تیسرے دن بھی یہی ہوا، چوتھے دن بھی لوگ اتنے جمع ہوگئے کہ مسجد میں مزید کسی آدمی کے آنے کی گنجائش نہ رہی لیکن اس دن نبی ﷺ گھر میں بیٹھے رہے اور باہر نہیں نکلے، حتیٰ کہ میں نے بعض لوگوں کو " نماز، نماز " کہتے ہوئے بھی سنا، لیکن نبی ﷺ باہر نہیں نکلے، پھر جب فجر کی نماز پڑھائی تو سلام پھیر کر لوگوں کے درمیان کھڑے ہوئے، توحید و رسالت کی گواہی دی اور امابعد کہہ کر فرمایا تمہاری آج کی حالت مجھ سے پوشیدہ نہیں ہے، لیکن مجھے اس بات کا اندیشہ ہوچلا تھا کہ کہیں یہ نماز تم پر فرض نہ ہوجائے اور پھر تم اس سے عاجز آجاؤ۔
Hazrat Ayesha Radi Allaho Anha se marvi hai ki ek martaba Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam darmiyaan raat mein ghar se nikle aur masjid mein ja kar namaz parhne lage, log jama hue aur wo bhi Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ki namaz mein sharik hogaye, subah hui to logon ne ek dusre se is baat ka tazkara kiya ki Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam nisf raat ko ghar se nikle thay aur unhon ne masjid mein namaz parhi thi, chunancha agli raat ko pehle se zyada tadad mein log jama hogaye, Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam hasb sabiq bahar tashreef laye aur namaz parhne lage, log bhi un ke sath sharik hogaye, teesre din bhi yahi hua, chauthe din bhi log itne jama hogaye ki masjid mein mazeed kisi aadmi ke aane ki gunjaish na rahi lekin us din Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ghar mein baithe rahe aur bahar nahin nikle, hatta ki maine baaz logon ko "namaz, namaz" kehte hue bhi suna, lekin Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam bahar nahin nikle, phir jab fajar ki namaz parhai to salam phir kar logon ke darmiyaan kharay hue, toheed o risalat ki gawahi di aur amabaad keh kar farmaya tumhari aaj ki halat mujh se poshida nahin hai, lekin mujhe is baat ka andesha hochala tha ki kahin ye namaz tum par farz na hojae aur phir tum is se aajiz aajao.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، وَابْنُ بَكْرٍ ، قَالَا: أَخبرنا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ، قَالَ: قَالَ عُرْوَةُ : قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةً مِنْ جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ، فَصَلَّى فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، فَثَابَ رِجَالٌ فَصَلَّوْا مَعَهُ بِصَلَاتِهِ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ النَّاسُ تَحَدَّثُوا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ خَرَجَ، فَصَلَّى فِي الْمَسْجِدِ مِنْ جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ، فَاجْتَمَعَ اللَّيْلَةَ الْمُقْبِلَةَ أَكْثَرُ مِنْهُمْ، قَالَتْ: فَخَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اغْتَسَلَ مِنْ جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ فَصَلَّى وَصَلَّوْا مَعَهُ بِصَلَاتِهِ، ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَ فَتَحَدَّثُوا بِذَلِكَ، فَاجْتَمَعَ اللَّيْلَةَ الثَّالِثَةَ نَاسٌ كَثِيرٌ حَتَّى كَثُرَ أَهْلُ الْمَسْجِدِ، قَالَتْ: فَخَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ فَصَلَّى، فَصَلَّوْا مَعَهُ، فَلَمَّا كَانَتْ اللَّيْلَةُ الرَّابِعَةُ، اجْتَمَعَ النَّاسُ حَتَّى كَادَ الْمَسْجِدُ يَعْجَزُ عَنْ أَهْلِهِ، فَجَلَسَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ، قَالَتْ: حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ نَاسًا مِنْهُمْ، يَقُولُونَ: الصَّلَاةَ، فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهِمْ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ سَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فِي النَّاسِ، فَتَشَهَّدَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ:" أَمَّا بَعْدُ، فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَخْفَ عَلَيَّ شَأْنُكُمْ اللَّيْلَةَ، وَلَكِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ تُفْرَضَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَتَعْجَزُوا عَنْهَا" .
