Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 25618
It is narrated on the authority of Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her) that during the illness of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), some people came to visit him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led them in prayer while sitting, and the people started praying while standing. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gestured for them to sit. When he finished the prayer, he said, "An Imam is appointed so that he may be followed. When he bows, you should bow, and when he raises his head, you should raise your heads. When he prays sitting, you should pray sitting."

حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ کی بیماری میں کچھ لوگوں کو عیادت کے لئے بارگاہ نبوت میں حاضری ہوئی، نبی ﷺ نے انہیں بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھائی اور لوگ کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھنے لگے، نبی ﷺ نے انہیں بیٹھنے کا اشارہ کردیا اور نماز سے فارغ ہو کر فرمایا امام اسی لئے مقرر کیا جاتا ہے کہ اس کی اقتداء کی جائے، جب وہ رکوع کرے تو تم بھی رکوع کرو اور جب وہ سر اٹھائے تو تم بھی سر اٹھاؤ، جب وہ بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھے تو تم بھی بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھو۔
Hazrat Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki bimari mein kuch logon ko ayadat ke liye bargah e nabuyat mein hazri hui, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unhein baith kar namaz parhai aur log kharay ho kar namaz parhne lage, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unhein baithne ka ishara kardiya aur namaz se farigh ho kar farmaya imam isi liye muqarrar kiya jata hai ki uski iqtida ki jaye, jab wo rukuh kare to tum bhi rukuh karo aur jab wo sar uthaye to tum bhi sar uthao, jab wo baith kar namaz parhe to tum bhi baith kar namaz parho.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَتْنِي عَائِشَةُ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ فِي مَرَضِهِ يَعُودُونَهُ، فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ جَالِسًا، فَجَعَلُوا يُصَلُّونَ قِيَامًا، فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَنْ اجْلِسُوا، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ، قَالَ:" إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ، فَإِذَا رَكَعَ، فَارْكَعُوا، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ، فَارْفَعُوا، وَإِنْ صَلَّى جَالِسًا، فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا" .
