Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 25893
It is narrated on the authority of Aisha (RA) that the wife of Usman bin Mazun (RA) used to apply henna and perfume herself. But suddenly, she abandoned all these things. One day, she came to me in a disheveled state, so I asked her, "What is the matter with you?" She said, "My husband remains awake at night (in prayer) and fasts during the day." After a while, the Prophet (PBUH) came to me, and I mentioned this to him. The Prophet (PBUH) met Usman (RA) and said, "O Usman! Monasticism has not been prescribed for us. Am I not the best example for you (to follow)? By Allah, I am the most God-fearing and the most observant of His limits among you all."

حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے مروی ہے کہ حضرت عثمان بن معظون کی اہلیہ مہندی لگاتی تھیں اور خوشبو سے مہکتی تھیں لیکن ایک دم انہوں نے یہ سب چیزیں چھوڑ دیں، ایک دن وہ میرے پاس پراگندہ حالت میں آئیں تو میں نے ان سے پوچھا کہ آپ کی کیا حالت ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ میرے شوہر شب بیدار اور صائم النہار ہیں، تھوڑی دیر بعد نبی ﷺ میرے پاس تشریف لائے تو میں نے ان سے یہ بات ذکر کی، نبی ﷺ ان سے ملے اور فرمایا اے عثمان! ہم پر رھبانیت فرض نہیں کی گئی، کیا میری ذات میں تمہارے لئے اسوہ حسنہ نہیں ہے؟ واللہ تم سب سے زیادہ اللہ سے ڈرنے والا اور اس کی حدود کی حفاظت کرنے والا میں ہوں۔
Hazrat Ayesha razi Allah anha se marvi hai ki Hazrat Usman bin Mazoon ki ahliya mahendi lagati thin aur khushbu se mahkti thin lekin ek dum unhon ne ye sab cheezen chhor din, ek din wo mere pas paraganda halat mein aayin to main ne un se pucha ki aap ki kya halat hai? Unhon ne kaha ki mere shohar shab bedar aur saim un nahar hain, thori dair baad Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) mere pas tashreef laaye to main ne un se ye baat zikar ki, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) un se mile aur farmaya aye Usman! Hum par rehbaniyat farz nahi ki gayi, kya meri zaat mein tumhare liye usool hasna nahi hai? Wallahu tum sab se zyada Allah se darne wala aur us ki hudood ki hifazat karne wala mein hun.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ , قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ , عنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ , قَالَ: دَخَلَتْ امْرَأَةُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَظْعُونٍ , أَحْسِبُ اسْمَهَا خَوْلَةَ بِنْتَ حَكِيمٍ , عَلَى عَائِشَةَ , وَهِيَ بَاذَّةُ الْهَيْئَةِ , فَسَأَلْتُهَا مَا شَأْنُكِ؟ , فَقَالَتْ: زَوْجِي يَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ وَيَصُومُ النَّهَارَ , فَدَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَذَكَرَتْ عَائِشَةُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ , فَلَقِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُثْمَانَ , فَقَالَ:" يَا عُثْمَانُ , إِنَّ الرَّهْبَانِيَّةَ لَمْ تُكْتَبْ عَلَيْنَا , أَفَمَا لَكَ فِيَّ أُسْوَةٌ؟ فَوَاللَّهِ إِنِّي أَخْشَاكُمْ لِلَّهِ , وَأَحْفَظُكُمْ لِحُدُودِهِ" .
