Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 25898
It is narrated on the authority of Aisha that whenever the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, would send an army, and Zayd ibn Harithah was among them, he would appoint him as the commander of that army. If he (Zayd) had lived after the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, the Prophet would have made him his Caliph.

حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ جب کبھی لشکر میں حضرت زید بن حارثہ کو بھیجا تو انہی کو اس لشکر کا امیر مقرر فرمایا: اگر وہ نبی ﷺ کے بعد زندہ رہتے تو نبی ﷺ انہی کو اپنا خلیفہ مقرر فرماتے۔
Hazrat Ayesha Radi Allaho Anha se marvi hai ke Nabi Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam jab kabhi lashkar mein Hazrat Zaid bin Haritha ko bheja to unhi ko us lashkar ka ameer muqarrar farmaya: Agar woh Nabi Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam ke baad zinda rehte to Nabi Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam unhi ko apna khalifa muqarrar farmate.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي وَائِلُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ , قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْبَهِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ , عَنْ عَائِشَةَ , قَالَتْ: " مَا بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَيْدَ بْنَ حَارِثَةَ فِي جَيْشٍ قَطُّ إِلَّا أَمَّرَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ , وَلَوْ بَقِيَ بَعْدَهُ اسْتَخْلَفَهُ" .
